It’s getting there now fella’s

It’s going to take some time to give a more in depth description but it feels superbly mad.

The triple plate clutch is smooth although you can feel a wad of aggression going on. I would hate to think about using this clutch without RCM’s Hydraulic Release Bearing ! I am guessing that would be a nightmare.
It blends really well with the new 6 speed transmission.
The clutch requires a large dose of concentration every time you pull away especially trying some medium to quick launches but once you are off it’s a dream to use. Down shifting makes you realise you have a monster clutch, it feels amazingly strong.

The power side of things feel very different now, due to the new gearing / diff and does not deliver as soon as the old turbo but when it kicks in it feels sooooooooo nice, and remains that way until I decide to stop changing gears.
I am still amazed that it can be a lot quicker yet the traction copes really well (in a straight line).

The additional power blends fantastically with the EXE suspension and the big brakes and I now need to learn the car.
It is very different to drive.
When the car was at around 400bhp & 5 speed with a kids clutch it was so smooth and a pleasure to drive.
Now I need to learn that pleasure again in a different environment, and when I do it will be something a bit special.

As a reference point: at 400bhp the car felt happy & content. At 500+ the same car seems to be on steroids and is seriously pissed off about something.

Olly & Matt at RCM have done a superb job. The engineering achieved with the available space needs to be admired.
There were many new items including more Gobstopper parts.

OS Giken Triple Plate Clutch
RCM Hydraulic Release Bearing
Clutch Balance
APR Flywheel Belt kit
Drainback Kit
6 Speed Gearbox Assembly
Rear Diff Assembly
RCM Twisted Turbo Kit
Waste Gate (44mm)
Garret GT30-37 – 0.82
RCM Air Injection Kit
Twisted Turbo Oil & Water Kit
100mm Spun Trumpet
Motec Lamba Sensor
Bosch Motorsport 10bar Pump
RCM STi Anti Surge Kit

Will post up some figures & more data soon

Am really curious to see if that turbo will make 600bhp without race gas Skull, do keep us updated !
We are running 2 very similar builds with Gt35/42's and both of those are at 575 and 585 respectively @ 1.8 bar boost.

It's not running near 600 yet Martyn. RCM do not class bhp as an important factor and I am beginning to understand that.
It's true what Olly said whereby you can go in a 650bhp car then jump in a 450bhp car that will feel and be quicker.
As you well know bhp is only one aspect of many. What I do know is that it's bloody quick now.
I believe there is going to be a dyno day organised shortly and I will be attending that then I will post up the results.

It starts to boosts at about 4200 and when it starts to pull it does not fade out like before. It's peaking at 2.0 bar boost and the acceleration is crazy.
The rate of pull in 2nd gear is exactly the same in 3rd,4th,5th & 6th. No difference at all.

Yesterday I took a fellow Scooby fanatic out in the car and today I have taken two more and all three had a huge smile and I believe their first words begun with F

Will keep you posted Martyn

I completely agree Skull, bhp isn't the be all and end all, driveability is.
Torque is key to a quick road car, but then if torque was your objective I personally would have specced a built 2.5 rather than a 2 litre.

I am sure you will have lots of fun in the coming weeks, and best of luck for your dyno day.

Some days life just seems to be testing us to the limit.
Others days life just seems to be just like the day before.
Then one day we have a treat that we never forget.
To-day has been such a day for me.

Skullfudge kindly offered to come over to my home and show Granby and me his car. I must say after having my head under the bonnet for a good hour looking at the Fabulous handy work of Olly & Matt Clark I can't truly think of enough words to describe what has been achieved. You will just have to look for your selves.
So "thanks Clive for bringing the car over and see you soon". No not likely Clive starts her up and "Jump in Hugh I'll take you for a spin".
Now I live in very tight country lanes. So naturally Clive went very cautiously until we got onto some wider roads.
This gave us time to discuss the car and for Clive to tell me about what it's like to driving the car since the upgrades.
So clear road ahead and Clive slips from 2nd into 3rd and ease the throttle to the metal 2500 rmp passes with out much trouble 3000rpm still nice and collected 3500rpm and things are now just starting to show potential, but nothing can prepare you for what is about to transpire when the needle gets to 4000rpm.
Now I have been in some pretty fast cars including a Le Mans Lola which was built only to race and was FAST.

But Clives car is on a different level to any road car that it's been my pleasure to ride in before. At 4000rpm the Turbo says "lets get this party started" and you are surrounded by your senses telling you that this is something your body has never been exposed to before. The rush just continues up to the rev limiter with the sudden need for the next gear and on it goes into hyper sphere. But today the road just ran out.

"What a great ride Clive" thinking its all over. Not likely we pull over Clive jumps out telling me to jump in the drivers seat. At this stage I pinch myself just to check that I'm not dreaming.
Into the driving seat it is then. Well would you have to think about it. Depress the triple plate hydraulic thrust bearing clutch and into first then lift up the clutch slowly, just to get the feel, through 2nd 3rd and into 4th car is almost like a shopping car, well behaved and mild mannered. After 10 minutes I'm beginning to fell at ease with the car and now have enough confidence to ask a little bit more from her.

Out onto the A20 and down Death Hill now known as Gores Hill, from 2nd I slip her into 3rd building the revs slowly up to 4000 then move the carpet and rivet the pedal to the floor. My heart has just popped into my mouth to check out my teeth and in a blink of an eye I need 4th and the awesome power of this car still keeps coming and coming the speed limit has long gone and we are fast approaching traffic.
Down to Farningham roundabout and start the climb back up to Scracthes Lane with another chance to see what this car is capable of again I'm left in no dout the power is just like turning the switch on and is instant. Time for one more blast and home for Granby's ride.

What do I think of the total package, well I've got first refusal if Clive ever gets tied of this FANTASTIC P1.
The feed back through the steering tells you everything you need to know about the road under the tyres.
The brakes are as fast to stop the car as the engine is at propelling it foward.
The surspension is able to cope with every day roads and can be quikely adjusted for track use.

In all the MOST desirable car it's been my pleasure to drive.

Many thanks to Clive for keeping his promise to let me take the helm of his PRIDE and JOY.

Scooby Hoo? your welcome, you should be editing columns in car mags

I am glad you posted this cos it is hard to explain just how good the car feels when driving it.

By the way guys, as well owning one of the cleanest Scoobs you will ever see, this fella also owns a 2.1 Pinto powered Caterham and has just returned from the States having enjoyed a driving experience in the new 750bhp super charged Mustang Elena. Lucky bugger
