I posted on the other VXR WRX post, but my comments were considered rubbish apparently, so i'll try again.....

The VXR is a stunning car, and if i had £20k for a new car i would seriously consider getting one. (Although if i had £20k to spend on ANY car i'd probably get a Spec C or an Evo 8).

I expect it is a fantastic car to drive, and in fact a friend of mine has recently driven one. (You might even know him....Dave from V-Tuning).
Said it was very impressive, but desperatly needs a LSD.

One thing to consider though is future mods. A WRX could go up to 300bhp without too much hassle, but once the Astra get's up to that figure it will be a nightmare. And yes i do know what i am talking about, as i have had a 300bhp Astra aswell as my WRX.
So standard car vs standard car yes, the VRX is probably better.

Another thing to consider is when i got my WRX i didn't go onto migweb saying how i thought it was a much better car than my Astra, as i know the kind of response i would get. I think it is a bit unfair having a pop at Subaru owners for sticking up for their cars, as i know Vauxhall owners would be just as bad. Hence why there are no posts here from me when i had the Astra boasting how good it was, as again i knew how slated i would get.

It is all down to personal opinion.
My Astra was an animal, and had some fantastic times in it. But it came to the point were i wanted more, and going over 300bhp in that car would have been a big mistake, so i bought my WRX with the intention of modding it. (Which is slowly getting there)

I see where you are coming from, the VXR is superb, but i'd recommend if you want to say how good it is without getting a bit of stick then try www.migweb.co.uk

Hope this response isn't considered rubbish this time, as i said before it is just my personal opinion.

From memory it was a friend of the VXR owner who started the thread though Moley? The owner came later when the thread had run for a good few pages?

A 300 horse Astra would only be good for bragging about I agree....Mind you I would like to have a go in one

It was certainly an experience, but got fed up changing the driveshafts every month and the tyres every 2-3 months!!!

Had a 6 speed box aswell, so still managed to average 28-29mpg!!!

Havent argued about the performance yet. I actually said the VXR is probably quicker in some situations. Not arguing about price either i only quoted you. I just said that i thought it was overpriced thats all and not worth the extra over the WRX. You need to accept that not everyone has to have the same opinion as you. You argue with me even though i agree with your statements about performance???? Whats wrong with you. What gets my back up is the minute others have a different opinion you start mouthing off and claiming that because some scoob owners prefer their car over your VXR then they must think that their car is the fastest or best in the world or that they have blinkered views and cant see past the scoob. Most scoob owners will prefer their cars, thats why they own them. If they prefered a VXR they would buy one.

Mine was one of the last old shape cars. It was on an 'M' plate. I bought it when 3 years old with 60K miles on it. Kept it a year and didnt spend one penny on it. A good car.

How come? Was it a pre production model?

It's a pretty close call between the Golf, Focus, Astra and all the other similar sized turboed hatches, would love to drive all of them back to back, only managed the Megane and WRX so far
