Until Subaru build a factory in this country to make cars, any legacy or impreza sold in this country is an import(pure and simple).
Pslewis are you trying to tell us something?

And the 2003 winner of the OSCAR for stating the bleeding obvious goes to D.J.
We ALL know that!!
What I am disclosing is that they are built in the SAME factory BUT to DIFFERENT specs and quality .............. as the JDM only has a life requirement of 5 years maximum - it would be a foolish manufacturer who wasted the BEST parts on a JDM, wouldn't it?

Duh!!We know they're built in the same factory but to different specs. As for the quality what can I say? The jdm subarus are obviously made from sub-standard components compared to the uk model(you didn't happen to work in the car insurance business at the start of the jap import boom?).
At the end of the day one is as good as the other.
If someone wants to spend their hard earned cash on a uk spec or an imported car it's their decision to make, not mine or yours. But if they opt for the opposite of you it doesn't make them inadequate/daft/superior etc. etc.
Leave the my cars better than your car to the kids who buy a saxo/corsa for six grand and fill it with twenty grand plus worth of stereo equipement.

I'm sure your car will drive home, mine would be taken on a trailer. As previously explained, if it blows than so what, just re-build it.
Rgds & compliments of the season to everyone.....

Revisiting an old GC thread .... funny how things have changed.
In 2024 the Imports esp 2 door, RAs, STIs are very expensive with people buying investment grade modern classics .... typical JDM mania.
The UK are considered poverty spec... often rotten now .... hardly worth saving.
But Subaru made so many special editions and spec changes over the years that its almost impossible to compare cars.
But this year I bought a 97 UK car ........ why ?
- paid 5k ... instead of 11k+ for WRX, STi
- chassis not rotten
- diff more suited to actually driving on roads rather than sprinting
- Suspension more suited to terrible UK roads ....supposedly ?
- has 4 pots
- keep reserve budget for repairs
But still poverty spec ......... so I've spent some £££s ...
- replaced a damaged turbo with TD04 hybrid
- New exhaust system with 200 cell CAT
- mapped to 280
- whiteline 22mm rear ARB
- full maintenance , new tyres, alignment
If any suspension needs replacement, then I'll likely go full refresh with Pedders or Eibach / Kyb ... another 1k.
So basically WRX spec ... 8k into it ... but I'm hoping its a decent car now.
I drove a 96 Turbo back in the day - my impression was ... plastic interior, adequate power ruined by under-damped suspension.
So honestly .... I think the Imports are better ... and the Turbos need to be lifted out of poverty spec in terms of power and chassis.
Built not bought is part of the fun.

I'm happy to state that my UK MY97 Turbo2000 is back on the road after a few hiatuses (guessing welding related ).
https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk...ckRecalls=true
Fair play to the old thing; It was garaged and rust free up until 2006 when I sold it so corrosion-wise only suffered from that point onwards. Credit to the current owner who seems up for keeping it going
GC8s need preserving whatever spec/market they maybe.

Considering how lightweight the classic is, the body has held up as well as anything I know approaching 25 years old - but it has been covered or garaged in my 10 years of owning it.
