PMSL!!!

Lots of things going on at the moment, Car engine spec has changed somewhat, Parts should arrive next week hopefully then all will be revealed. A couple of people have moved the power goal posts recently and tried some new stuff which i would also like to try.
I am pretty certain that i will be one of the first to break a US 2.5 but it all depends on time scale for my completion.

Rob

Edited to add: I hope that i dont break the Engine but it is worth finding out what they are capable of.

Lol, Parts pics to come mate...

So many things going on at the moment, Actually quite scary considering 6 months ago i said i was gonna chill and save some money for a while... Have two companies Prototypes going on my car, cant say anything at the moment as they are not due for release until Jan/Feb but i am quite excited lol.

I know it doesnt help you lot much but all will become clear..

Really need to get my *** in gear and get the CDB/STi 2.0 built and in the car as the car is sitting far too still at present. Plus i need to get the turbo/fuelling etc in place before the 2.5 goes in.... Thats if the 2.0 will spin the turbo PMSL!

Rob

p.s. scrap the Internal wastegate crap i was talking about last month... External rocks!!!

That's better!
I hill climb my StiV3, it has 314 bhp/280 lbsft @ 2000cc.
For your 2.5 will you keep it simple, ie 2000cc heads/cams etc and simply find a 'bigger' turbo and fuel system with a new ecu (GEMS)?
I am interested to build a motor to one side next year while I struggle with the current engine ( 450 bhp is the norm in my class at the hill climbs), but I need a responsive torque bias engine not a 500 bhp wonder between 5500 and 6500rpm only, driveability is everything.
Using an STi engine and a Lateral 2.5 bottom end seems a good start?
Keep going, I need a plan (and parts list) to follow!
Graham.

Cool

911,

given that you want to do hillclimbs - consider the turbo I am using. On a 2.33l it produced 500lbs ft of torque at 3,000rpm!!!!!! We actually turned down the boost as we were worried about block stress on the engine dyno. OK, on the road this might translate into something 3-500 rpm later, but the amount of torque it can produce is incredible. Right across the rev range. And this is on a 2.33, on a 2.5l it should be even better.

It is a 'small' GT30 that has been modified to provide earlier spool up, it does have an external wastegate tho and so involves a little more work than normal on the pipe side.

Cool

Rannock, been hill climbing for 10 years in my trusty 911, and for the last 2 in my trusty but faster StiV3!
The 911 is 3.2 litre in 1000Kg and no turbo. It's full of torque from tick-over. The STi is another thing...
How did you get to that engine capacity? An engine full of torque is perfect for hill climbing, getting out of the tight corners off boost is hard and usually demands harsh change-downs and full throttle..
That turbo sounds good.
Can you tell me how you did it, on my email if you wish.
My engine is stock save for a Blitz boost controller as the engine is very prone to overboost/fuel cut. Gives 314 bhp but only 280 Lb ft torque.Runs at 1.31 bar. Over boost gave 1.6 bar!!!!
Happy new year, Graham.

Cool

Graham,

happy to discuss. I also have a 911, a 993 Variocam, and agree with you about the torque. At Elvington, even where it is very grippy, in the damp the wheels started spinning even at 2,000 rpm!

Also in 6th, with will pick up from 1,200 rpm, fabulous cars!

Will email you - I presume you have seen my project thread. If you can avoid all the noise and interference, I think there is quite a bit of detail there.

Cool

My 911 is an oldie, a 1973 Touring (light)with a chipped 3.2 engine, fully lowered, no rubber anywhere in the suspension, valved Bilstiens, Turbo bars and on and on! It is a killer on the road, runs OPEN pipes and yet passes the MoT.
Cheapest car I have to run and doesn't depreciate unlike my STi...

Very hard to beat a 911.

Please email details. I hill climb against a 'gang' of EVO's, one with 480 bhp in my class, but I am only about 2 seconds behind them. Will be on Avon slicks this season so should see some improvements then (I hope)
Regards, Graham.

Right....
Feckin FTP uploader is playin up and i am hoping that it will be sorted tomorrow. Pics galore
Car should* be driving in the next couple of weeks....

Engine build has taken a different direction, the 2.5 was to run with Sti4 heads but i have sourced a set of V5 heads with manifold and it is looking like i am not going to have too much of a problem running the ver5 bits with the Motec V4loom (some custom wiring).
However, the car needs to pass an SVA and will be driven by a CDB 2.0 for now.
The turbo, Cooler, fuel system etc will be set up on the 2.0 first whilst i finalise the 2.5 build(post SVA), it will be a lag monster but give me more time to sort out the finishing touches.
