It depends what you determine Cheap by...
It has got to be one of the cheapest ways of buying a brand new block and increasing capasity that you can buy.

what exactly do u need to make the 2.5 engine work?

lets say for example i blow my phase 2 lumps bottom end

could i simply buy the 2.5 short block and bolt on my heads and extras and have a running car asap?

or do u need to machine them down or such?

In theory you can just bolt your heads and ancilleries to the 2.5, i would say that you will need to run an aftermarket ECU though, The map will need changing and i am pretty sure the MAF will not read the Airflow correctly.

You will need to Contact Mark for pricing of a short engine, he is quite a good mna to talk to as far as what ECU etc to go for...
AFAIK he doesnt actually supply ECU's but does give good advice.

I would guess at between 1k-1.5k for a new ecu and remap, but EcuTek may be of use??

In all honesty it is definately going to be next year until this goes in, i need to SVA the car and i may have a prob with a Garrett or TD/decat/2.5/headers 850's etc...
I have a few things to sort out on the car, once it is road legal then i will think about fitting.

Doesn't look damaged from the pics..

What is it like under the bonnet?

Very good idea for a big engine build up to buy a car in this condition.. like it

The bonnet has a small bulge in it where it has had some heat on it but it will clean up well, the drivers wing looked identical before i cleaned it. I have a replacement Ally bonnet in Black so i am not to fussed about cleaning the White one properly (will give it a quick scrub though )

As far as under the bonnet goes there was a small fire on the Up Pipe, this melted the Waterspray bottle/ Inlet pipe and Carbon canistor. There is a slight bit of wiring needed as the fire took some of the caoting off of the MAP/Boost/MAF wires. I need to find a supplier for the small female spade clips that go into the Connectors, that way i can solder new wiring into the loom and reuse the connectors as they are not burnt.
IF ANYONE CAN LET ME KNOW OF A SUPPLIER OF THE CLIPS I NEED
Maybe RS/Maplin, will have to search.

SO... I need a WS bottle, Inlet pipe (to turbo and MAF link pipe) Also need a Rad and fans (removed by car supplier) As far asthe engine goes, the original STi engine threw a Rod out of the top of the block.... Luckily the heads were untouched but the block/crank is scrap.
I have a MAF for the car.

Have just picked up Some headlights and a grill is available to me, will be updating the bumper to 99/00...

Rob,

I have an inlet pipe from a MY97/98 manifold, swap you for a drivers side fuel rail .
