Yes lunacy indeed.

Spiked once to that level hence the peak reading, it certainly wasn't held at that level... at all.

EGT's sit around 500 when driving sensibly, temps spiked to that ridiculous level not a held figure, I am somewhat kicking myself for not seeing it rise that far, would certainly have backed off long before then if I had.
It's back safe and sound in the garage having a few other bits I wanted to tidy up..
Not coming out again til ecu can be sorted.

apologies for being such an ****.

Erm well what can I say except that I was concentrating on what was ahead of me, it's a little more nerve racking when the needle passes the 160mph mark. On a local private drag strip of course!
Your point is (See DW and Pavlo)

When mine went past 1.7 i was liftting off, to the screams of DW going, "keep going"

That'll be the heat that caused that then !

Smaller oil filter doesn't sound like a good move to me

Andy it still soaks up a goodly amount of oil when changing, not that much real difference. Seal configuration is better now though.

Andy,

I think I may have been a little vicious (sp?) with the die grinder, I remeber it going blue in that area and thought it must be getting thin... that rather excessive temp I think finished it off.

I queried it (the filter), they seem to think it's better, perhaps there was a problem with the Gasket as Bob said !
Mine's been fine !
Ho hum, filter soaking up some of the £46 squids worth of oil and car I've left to drain over night...

Manifold now sat on freezer awaiting some abuse with the MIG tomorrow and some more grinding too I expect

car I've left to drain over night...

don't like the sounds of that. I always think it's best to swap oil and filter as quick as possible but may-be it's just me

if it sounds like a diesel in the morning let us know

Have faith T-UK.

This is the way I've always done it..
gives a chance for all the contimainated old oil to drip out.

Filter will be full and the pump will suck it straight up.

I have been known to take the plugs out and give it a quick whirl to get old oil out of the galleries too.
Not chancing that on this motor though !

Andy

Oh, temp sender is in top of up pipe 10mm behind turbo inlet.

Agree with Andy here, I usually leave mine to drain for about 2 hours before the refilling procedure, Its suprising how much dribbles out, I also jack the car to bias towards the drain.

filters sometimes dont just suck up..

when priming my new engine the filter had to be primed through the galleries..

andy keep an eye on that oil pressure gauge... and remove the plugs and crank on starter until you get oil pressure...

I hate die grinding.. but thats due to punching a reinforced glass window a a couple of years ago.. and having major problems with my right hand.. and air die grinders get cold..

Have you refitted it with the non-flat gasket flange to be able to demonstrate to your brother I assume yes?

Could it not be the gasket leaking making the noise?

Hope so

Yes, I was hoping the gasket would seal the un even surfaces.

not so..

I also wondered whether it's the bad seal that is making the squeal?

But past luck tells me it's gonna be the turbo.

We'll see.

Well I hope it is not 3 times as bad

I think the gasket leaks do make strange noises..

My downpipe when it stripped a nut and was leaking made a sorts of buzzing squeal.. think the gasket was vibrating..
