Here goes .............. ALL my money ;o)
Two hours spent with various grades of carbide paper and a hard flat surface and the collector flange is looking flat once more.
Re-fitted to find flange of up pipe is in a similar state...
so that will need to be removed to get the gasket to seal.
It is better and better still....
The squeal has gone

Had a fooking scare though, compressor outlet pipe blew off on the bypass, first thoughts were, oh **** no not the gearbox. but instead of reving and grinding she carried on normally.
Then thoughts turned back to turbo and my imagination was picturing the compressor wheel falling off and being chewed up by the valves...
No boost.. Oh **** it is the turbo.. back to garage...

: one loose Samco

:
Ok so mapping is back on
I know Bob is on a break at the mo so probably not read the above post... will edit to save grace.
Off with the up pipe over the weekend, inspect the turbo and spend muchos time getting up close and personal with the up pipe !

Fuzz,
nice to see all the pics and mods etc
hopefully you'll have it running reliably
I'm just doing minor mods to keep an eye on things and then hopefully begin some power mods..
I've got a centre pod like yours but it didn't come with any brackets or screws..
How have you fixed yours? double sided sticky tape?
Do you have a Lambda Link? and has it got the same number of LEDS as the knock link?
I'm asking because i'm placing the LEDS from the knocklink onto the pod and will be doing the same for the Lambda link when i get round to buying one so thought i'd drill the holes for the LEDS all at once...
Cheers
Franko

Franko,
My centre pod is held down with sticky backed velcro tape.
Double sided tape or glue would make it a "once only" fittment, which I didn't like the idea of, people have wrecked dashboards in the past trying to get them off afterwards.
I have a dawes AFR and not the lambda link so someone else would have to advise there ?
Perhaps there is a piccy of one on www.brdevelopments.com ??? they sell most of the link equipment.
David,
Apologies for not replying to the msn this morning, next door neighbours borrowed my keyboard in a fault finding mission.
(fecking Hewlet Packard)
They wanted to """"borrow"""" my motherboard too !!!!
I can see what I'll be doing tomorrow.
Oh and back on topic.. I did for a split second think about welding the thing together but "doing it right" just feels the better way... more work I agree, but the things not going anywhere til Bob comes back from Hol anyway, so have a couple of weeks to get it sorted.

- 1 x Power LED
- 8 x LED's to show reading
- 1 x light sensor
Keep on at it Andy, it will all be worth it soon enough!!
Thank for the advice Fuzz, i was thinking i'd be taking the pod off to adjust things etc and would need some way of removing it without damaging or replacing sticky tape etc all the time.. velcro is a great idea
IanW,
Thank you for taking the time in going out and having a look for me,i really do appreciate it
Thanks Guys

and I thought I was up late
surprised you could focus on the monitor

No MSN on the laptop, my pc will be in bits later today trying to fix the pc I sold to next door.
Wont recognise cd-rom,
wont recognise a-drive
tells me C: is an "unknown media"
think the M/B is fried
anyway.. wrong thread for this pc tecky stuff.
Will speak soon

taken davids advise, that joint has leaked it's last leak..
Now welded solid.
Lets hope I don't have to take it off at least for a while.
scratched my head over the inlet temp gauges I bought from maplins a while ago, not fitted
more enthusiasm required.
also lagged the bit of intercooler transfer pipe that passes by the header.

Apologies for the thread hi-jack!

Nice one Andy, what boost pressure was that running at ?
Any idea why they don't normalise the results to DIN 70020 ? Powerstation with a similar set up don't do it either
This compensates (up or down) for the atmospheric pressure and temperature on the day and allows meaningful comparisons between Winter and Summer runs.

Andy,
All my RR runs have been in cold weather, always seem to have done them winter time ??? just lucky, Yes it would have been more meaningful but ho hum, none of the others I've had done have been Standardised so it's just a rough comparison anyway.
If there is any RR sessions going on "oop" north (just not too far north) I'd be happy to oblige.

Might see over 400 then

Boost pressure was I believe 1.4 bar not dropping at the top !
(due to some mild boost creep) (can bee seen at top of torque curve).
Bob thinks it's my intercooler..... it's too efficient apparently.

might need some work with the die grinder
also putting in 27 degrees advance, apparently that's v-good too
A very quiet engine, despite one of the lads from TSL today spying my knocklink on dash during run... "detting quite bad"
Neither I, Rich or Curt heard it det at all.
Just a v-sensitive light.
Anything more technical than that and Bob will have to respond

From: Leeds - It was 562.4bhp@28psi on Optimax, How much closer to 600 with race fuel and a bigger turbo?
belive me if it was detting, bob would not have let you go home with it.. no self respecting mapper would.. not with lead foot andy c..

Why doesn't the graphs cross @ 5252 rpm
Is it something to do with non-linear drivetrain losses or am I barking up the wrong tree?

I see what you mean about the torque, it's very late peaking even taking account of it being such a big turbo ?
The intercooler will not cause boost creep, that's down to the wastegate size and control solenoid duty cycle. If the wastegate can't dump the exhaust quickly enough then the turbo runs faster and faster causing the boost to rise with engine rpm.
I'm sure your intercooler will run even cooler on the road !!

Presumably there is a nice VE peak at 6000 RPM which gives the increase in torque there? There is a good range where the torque is >x% of maximum.
Nice results anyway, excellent for Powerstation
