It starteth at the begining,
I suppose this will start of a bit like another DIY front mount thread, a few differences may be on the cards though

First some measurments,
how much work...just to take some measurments

Space for the transfer pipes,

There is about 70mm between the cam cover and the abs pump,
looks like I could turn it round 90 degrees if I needed to.

Now where do I stick the intercooler,
lets have a look,

dog see rabbit now

Hmmmm how about the pipes through here if I lean the radiator back like so, just need something to wedge it back now so I can take a few pics

Now all I have to sort out what core to buy and where from,
looks like I have 220mm to play with in height
and 700 mm to play with in length (including end tanks)
less If I want to feed pipes around radiator.

Andy

Nice one Andy, will be very interested in this one. What core you thinking of using?

As i said earlier by email. I am thinking of modifying my APS kit to go similar routes.

What route are you thinking of for the direction of the air flow

No probs steve, aim to please

Right...the core,
definitely a stacked plate type (plate and shell) and I'm having the end tanks on the top and bottom NOT the sides,
this way will allow me to create a greater internal flow area, as there will be more tubes in the up down direction than there would be from left to right.
all this for the same frontal area .... same transfer area .... same efficiency.
Advantages = lower pressure loss.

As for direction of flow and position,
out from the turbo toward the drivers wing, i.e either a opposite spinning turbo so that the output is at the top of the compessor housing and pointing toward the wing or just turn over a normal direction turbo so that the output is at the bottomn of the compressor housing and have it pointing slightly upward toward bonnet but still toward the drivers wing...
Then toward the front offside headlight in between the ABS pump and cam cover, keeping as low as poss to allow for huge inlet pipe across the top of it !
moving the rad forward so that the pipe can access the top of the intercooler core.
I may have to make my own thicker but shorter radiator if I can't move it forward enough to get the pipes in between.

Exit cool side of cooler at the bottom, up and over cam cover, having to re position oil filler for this.
then swinging round into what may end up being a charge cooler where the original top mount would have been.
Not yet looked at this end yet but would certainly be a bit different
If I do make one it will have to flow a dammed site better than the original top mount, that centre exit does nothing for flow

This is a new one. Andys original one contained a very long thread title which distorted the forum index. So in an attempt to keep things tidy, i emailed Andy asking if he would mind re creating it, with a small title, ie less .... or spaces between them and the words.

To avoid people responding to a thread that would change, i locked it.

It was an attempt to keep things looking tidy and easy to look at.

Lol, just a bit mate!! how many people wanted to tell me my bonnet wasnt shut properly..
The second time round i made some brackets to bolt the slam panel to the bumper bracket, this worked quite well but would have given up over time..

Have you thought about rotating the battery 90 degrees? it gives you much more space and saves complete battery relocation??

Trying to do my own R&D on this one
but may buckle

help me out here
am I looking at this right ?

an example only (not the sizes I am looking at)

below, pasted from a site selling "standard sized cores"

4.5 X 5.85 X 16.5 790

* First two dimensions of the core represent the charge side. The second dimension can be cut down to create a smaller core (in increments of one charge row and one ambient row.)
** Approximate flow rate in CFM means the core will flow the CFM shown with 1.5PSI pressure drop. The core can flow more CFM, but the pressure drop will be higher.

this is my representation of what this means !
Is it correct ?????

I was wondering when someone was going to bring that up !

inlet pipe.
catch can.
intercooler.
swirl pot.
all being done with hire TIG, because if I bought one I wouldn't have any dough left to spunk on the car
so practicing and giving away free catch cans is probably off the cards now
(must have been drunk when I wrote that in 22b )

curently the turbo on the top of the list is an MD195S (still struggling to find any info on it though
Does anyone know about this model ??

Fuel pressure reg ordered today,

feelers out on the following :-

intercooler core,
VF/Garret hybrid,
HKS 3" Hiper muffler centre & rear,
740cc injectors (less hassle than trying to get 850's in)!
HKS un-equal length headers.
my wallet is cringing in the corner, waiting for doomsday

Cool

Andy, don't bother with the Hiper have a word with Pat and try one of his design exhaust systems...0 back pressure, a little quieter than the Hiper and it's all stainless for a little less money than a new Hiper (400 IIRC)

I've just removed a Hiper to fit the Pat spec beasty along with a hybrid Hayward and Scott Down pipe...I'll post some pics when I get it on the car eventually

Tim,
any chance of some pics of this Pat exhaust then..before it gets fitted, what about Pat manifolds (stainless) !!!

Andy,
I knew it.
what size though ?
I'm going for an 800 x 200 core, looks like I'm going to have to weld two cores together as they don't make a single one large enough

Yes I welded 2 cores together. 340 x 240 > 2off making 680w x 240t

I've posted a pic on here somewhere, I'll see if I can dig it out
