Question

Much messing with the wideband as the boss in my downpipe has not been tapped properly

what was wrong with the boss?, you said you had checked it before welding it in . the couple that I still have left here are fine too.

andyf seems to like standard uk clutches after trying most. my standard uk clutch is strange, the car was mapped for TOTB and on the way started slipping, dropped the power and torque back and it has held fine since. yesterday had the TOTB map thrown back on and it took all the abuse I could throw ar it.going to see how long it can take it.

It's important to weld the boss on with a bung in, otherwise they warp.

I also had similar issues with clutches - sometimes OK, sometimes not.

T-uk, the thread in the boss is tapered, the OE sensor fits no problem with its small nose but my wideband sensor has a bigger dia nose, so I have thread indents in it now, not a big deal but had to make sure that it would still seal during the mapping session and, of course, trying to fit a sensor to a hot exhaust/turbo is a bit of an event when things don't go to plan.

Unhappy

sorry about that bob. I cant understand it as I checked it with a brand new wide band probe that I had here and it screwed in, right up to the crush washer by hand.

Originally, while at Bobs last friday I said it was Pats fault as he supplied the downpipe,
Duh ! memory relapse I think....
I have since realised / remember T-UK supplpied me the ready tapped boss that I welded in !!

must be my dodgy welding then,
I'm going to run a finishing tap down it before I put the pipe back on, looks fine though, can't see anywhere it was likely to have bound.

Nothing happening apart from struggling with removing the plugs this morning...
I was hoping to have at least the flywheel here this weekend so I would have had something to do, as I am working away from home for the next week or so.

Should be able to spend tomorrow smoothing the inside of the inlet pipe out, I made it in a bit of a rush.
Might take transfer pipes off and do the same there, as some welds were not ground out on the inside, would also like to heat wrap some more of the transfer pipe that passes by the header !

I suppose I had better attempt to fit a front No plate too, after finding out it's a "pointable offence"

plate now chucked on dash, behind windscreen, that'll do for now.

some FPR8's are being posted to me Monday but clutch and flywheel will now be a week... ish's delay.
Thanks Mark.

I also found the old spark plugs that I took out when I serviced it last (before most other mods)
Just for a comparison.

Probably not the time to go comparing plugs as the car was only half mapped on Friday due to the clutch, but you can see the top set of plugs are running hotter than the old set by their whiter appearance, I doubt it's leanness doing that as the AFR is almost solely on permenant blue at the mo.

That be Mr Burns, or Richard Burns??
Can see what you mean on the plugs, not sure what would have caused them to run hot though, possibly increased compression?

plugs here, no word on clutch or flywheel yet.

These look like racing 8's and not just normal 8's, Don't they ?

Very much appreciated Mark if they are, consideriing I paid for normal 8's.... I think.

good will gesture?

They are racing 8's, NGK don't seem to do a platinum "normal" 8.

Thanks for the reply Bob, I have spoekn to Mark this morning to clear up my confusion...
Mark does not supply the normal 8's and I said go ahead and order the racing 8's.... I have slept since the last convo with Mark over a week ago and "forgot" exactly what I had ordered.

all is now clear... my mind is elsewhere this week.

I take it racing 8's are ok ?

They will do nicely, just need to play with cruise timing a bit to keep them nice and clean (i.e. push the egt's up)

andy,

what results did you get at Power Station with the car before the big mods started and what is your goal, again at PS?

Here's a pic of two graphs overlaid.
The first is the "as purchased"

The higher reading one is after the Link, fuel pump, up pipe and ported standard headers.

The results will be at Powerstation...
what they'll be.. ermmm.. something over 350 would be nice
I'm looking for shed loads of torque to be honest.

Andy

Still no clutch.
Mind you, that could be because i've not paid for it yet.

progress !

Clutch has traversed the pond and has arrived at Marks, he's sorting packaging and should be delivering Monday, along with the lightened flywheel.

now all I have to do is find the torque wrench figures someone posted for me over on 22b....

oh and fix a busted shoulder

well if you were nearer I'd give you a hand..

If using a trolley jack to put it back in then position it properly first.. also its easier if you remove the two bottom studs..

can you put the box all the way on and then re-fit the fork or does it all have to go together at once.

cheers for the advise

Take the release bearing and fork and fit them together.. put dowel / pin back in.. hold clutch arm forward towards bellhousing.. thus keeping release bearing back..

Get box on properly.. Ie bolted.. then (only then!) push it back till the release bearing clips into the clutch.. there are other ways but this way works!

I should have Pat's exhaust on tomorrow or thursday if anyone is interested in seeing what it looks like on a car.

Not sure if any point in me making a wav of the exhaust sound though - since my car isn't really standard
