For maximum fun I can recommend welding the manifols while it's on the car (David's) complete with a primed fuel system...

Not that I would do that, again.

I'm assuming the plastic allows more compression/bending of the mating surfaces?

Oh well at least the timing could have been worse!

Did you mention the hire cost of the TIG?

Paul,
I measured the spacers ... low and behold one was narrower by 1mm at one end, must of come loose in the vice when I machined them down from 15mm to 10mm, they did warp when I did this but they are flexiible enough to bend back straight..
but not compressible at all so only thing left to let go was inlet manifold,

1 weeks TIG hire £70 notes.
(back in a mo to upload tonights stuff.)

Post gas flow has stopped working on it, so it's going back Friday FOC for this weeks use.

(£80 at another place local to me, better quality stuff by the looks of it )

Now I am certain that any similarities between Fuzz and Dr Who are not just a coincidence. Not only can he fit more into a Scooby engine bay than any self respecting Time Lord can fit in a TARDIS, but he has also managed to post to us from the future too - or have I been asleep for four months!!

Ever get the feeling your going backwards ?

tonight I have.

got the alternator bracket ready to adjust the position.

welded up the hole ready to re-drill in new position.
centre punched the measurments in.

voila'

start to fit it and scratch head over tensioning bracket end.
Then DING it dawns on me, why the hell am I moving it. I'm not doing a front entry mod !
I can put the reservoir over on the right hand side and leave the alternator where it is..
DULLARD
gave it a miss now till tomorrow in case I do anything else stupid

That was a wasted evening then.

the bow wasn't a problem (it would have pulled flat)

it does however, need to be of equal thickness along it's length.
it was this that caused a "gap" under one of the corners of the inlet manifold and subsequently on tightening up it snapped the lug off the inlet
fixed now though

the more I plane it, the thinner it gets, the hotter it gets, the more it bows. ROCK<><><><><>< >hard place.

easier to just buy some more, that's 10mm already and flat

No enthusiasm

I must be having the equivalent of rag week at the moment, snappy, argumentative and can't be arsed with this car.....

The alternator now welded back into the original position.
bit more scrap plate made into tiny bracket for reservoir mounting.

Somewhere here will do.

new bracket welded in.

welds ****, brackets on the **** but it's done and i'm off to bed.

...................................

The measurments for the filter plate.

Andy,

Go look through my fmic thread.. look at the times you ripped the **** out me when I said I cant be arsed..

What you need to do is get someone to take you out in there scoob..

And I hate to say it, but it is all worth it in the end... stuff the cost

I need to take the diff out of mine but cannot be arsed..

I just look at the car and think nah.. if I do some work it will cost me money..

Andy,

Could you post the one of the measurements I have marked in red please.

From the picture it looks as though the two sides of the plate are not a 90 degrees to the floor, is this correct or is it a fish eye effect fromt he camera?

Cheers,

Nezz.

I like the way you have though this all though then proceeded to place the FPR in a place which makes it really difficult to adjust ( unless you have a 90 degree screwdriver that is, I dont )

hehe, you can adjust with reg temporarily undone.

Andy,

To surface the plastic you need to clamp it down to the bed, not in the vice as the vice grip bows it.

Nezz10

I've just drawn up Fuzz's plate template on CAD - I'm toying with the idea of making one in carbon fibre.

The missing dims are:
Horizontal = 386mm
Vertical = 266

Hope this helps - see you all @ Japfest - Fuzz can I have a passenger lap

Nezz,

I have thought it all through.

Note the one bolt fixing..
undo slightly, flick the wrist and voila !!!

David,
Missing the inlet manifold !!

Drew isn't far out with those measurments.
This is what I measured.

Ian,
No probs with a passenger lap... if it's finished

two weeks till intercooler core arrives.

trouble is i'm off wreck diving in the Clyde Estuary for a week on Friday
kinda ***** things up a bit !!!

Anyway a small amount of time to adjust the length of the coolant reservoir support bracket.
