Andy, you may already know this but the small bore "soft" Samco is for vaccuum only and therefore not suited for pressure at all, that means map sensor/fuel pressure regulator/dump valve type applications. Demon Tweeks actually post a warning in their catalogue, also I've seen this type of Samco used for fuel hose and it tripled in diameter under idle pressure.

cheers

Bob

Not more bad news!

To be honest I have forgotten what half the pipes were for, it's been that long since I ordered them !

Might have some for sale at the end of it.

What with having to make more adjustments to the exhaust to get the flanges to line up and the boss missing from the down pipe, I'm wondering if someone "upstairs" actually wants me to finish it.

Andy

and having to scrape the bottom of the barrel, so to speak, isn't doing much for morale.

I run my sensor out of the direct flow with no problems. In fact, I think on the DIY Wideband site, he mentions that it can be preferable to do this to prevent overheating. As long as the exhaust gases can reach the sensor, it should work ok.
Also, given that it only has part throttle usage on a std car, id prefer to have it out of the way, rather than restricting any flow.

Check the Techedge site for mounting info, as Im pretty sure it covers it well.

Link also suggest moving the probe out 20-30mm to "help reduce the tip temperature resulting in improved high power readings".

Re: moving the lamda probe.... thought so!

David,

Not certain but I think the "vacuum" tube was bought for the dumpvalve to inlet manifold ? I'll use what I have bought for now, see if it's up to the job or not..
I'll let you know, ta for the offer David.

Well I'm comitted to fitting the pipework for the intercooler down round the radiator now, as I've just hacked a big hole in my front slam panel

It *WILL* fit!

Andy

must get my digi cam back, apologies for some of the more recent shots, they were taken on the camcorder.

I have a few spare bosses here that I had made up to fit widebands, while still running a standard lambda. I have not checked if they are threaded correctly yet but if you want one to try, I can send you one.

Yes it's McCullochs turbo.
circa 380bhp @ 1.8 BAR
In convo with Mark at the mo....
I want 400 though

Back to intercoolers,
Someone mailed me today with this little exerpt :

As you probably know, the traditional and only real way to efficiently cool air through an intercooler is in a horizontal plane.

WHY ??????????????????

according to corky bell, the wider the charge face the better the flow!
for a given size of core....oh bollox, hang on I'll scan it instead !

edit to add: he quoted me £895+vat+postage for just the f***ing core

Supplier tells me that the 740s are awaiting shipping from Japan, but that the shipment will not leave until some other goods are ready to go too (saves on carriage). At this rate I guess I'll have to DHL them over!

Can only apologise for the delay, and I'm confused to hell why there was no boss on the downpipe, that just doesn't make sense, all downpipes I have made should have lambda bosses on them. I shall have to beat Ian with a large lambda sensor shaped stick

With regard to the flanges, there's something weird going on, but it doesn't make sense... an exhaust was made on the car, and jigs were made from that exhaust. The exhaust fits in the jig. The exhaust fits the car. Then another exhaust was made. That fits in the jig. It does not fit the car. The jig was adjusted. The new exhaust was adjusted to the jig, and now fits the car and the jig. The original exhaust fits the car but does not fit the adjusted jig. My brain hurts! It just doesn't add up. However, my pizza is ready so perhaps my brain will be able to cope with the paradox with the aid of pepperoni

Cheers,

Pat.

send the men in white coats!

Cheers for the reply Pat.

Exhaust fits the car now, although flanges are a little warped on the downpipe to centre section, nothing a bit of gum gum wont sort.

photo's in a mo when they've finished uploading.
