That has to be one of the most beautiful sounds in the world, thats incredible..

Got to say though that the clip is excellent. The car sounds awesome.
So much for using SN to keep a record of my modification history.
Does not looks so good when the post order is jumbled up. !!!
Not fecking happy..
Hope it gets fixed.. or else I'm off...

I certainly agree, bin away for a week and SN has gone pearshaped!! Why are all the posts upside down?
So much for Improving it....
there not upside down for me...
They are jumbled the **** up !!
Edit: for eg, take a look at page 1.
I'm making the friggin intercooler before I have even got the bumper off that car... Yet it still says post # 1 and a date not relevant to the posting date

Project moving swiftly on to the next stage..
I came to the conclusion that any further mods would direct the car awayfrom a "good allround road car"
So what do I do with it....
go the whole hog of course.
It will now become a road legal track car with no "bias" towards the road anymore..
the leash is off.
right, so far I've managed to strip the car down to it's bare shell in readiness for seam welding and cage install by RRR (roelands race rally)
again the project has taken on the mentality "**** or bust"

That was last weekend, this weekend the engine bay has been concentrated on and I'm nearly ready for the cage now.

Are you leaving all the fuel lines in too, and, presumably the stock massive tank?
On seam welding:
In those dark old days before computors etc, shells were very flexible, but to- day, is seam welding really of benefit when you consider the cage that's going in?
Not saying its wrong, just is it really needed.
Daveid Wallace doing the same, but...
Anyway, glad it will be white.
Graham.
More pics please.

Interesting spelling there Graham (David Wallis BTW)
Andy, your pics were most helpful when speaking to Andrew the other day (for over an hour...we got on to Minis lol ) Currently contemplating welding the bulkhead, sill and rear seat seams on my car while fitting whichever bolt in cage I go for...
Graham, apparently welding the seams can make a huge difference on an Impreza shell, especially the sills, bulkhead, front and rear strut towers...going further forward than the struts is unwise apparently, as the cahssis legs are really crush cans designed to colapse in an impact and save you...welding them up can cause more problems in those situations

Pretty much as Tim says, front end wont be strengthened too much so keeping the crush area intact.
Once the cage goes in (should be this week) shell prep sounds like it's done from various mails (not seen it yet) the hole and jig saw will be coming out to play.... wonder how much metal Roelands can take out of it.
I've asked him to keep all the "offcuts" in a box so I can weigh it.
Sorry Graham but it's not going to be white now (final answer, no need to phone a freind
)
it's staying original.
Stock tank is going back in at this stage (fast running out of credit limit lol) fuel lines and brake lines will be in goodridge stainless braided PTFE (as per what I did on the race car) with the exception of the swirl pot, I'm going to do something "in tank" hopefully to keep it a bit neater.
Promised photos soon as I've been unable to get to South Wales myself, but nothing arrived in the e-mail yet.

Last weekend I went up to Roelands Race Rally and picked the cage up

This weekend I went to pick it up from the spray shop
Ready to get to work on it now.
MOT booked for this Friday.

I started on the engine bay
Curtis started on the wiring loom (forking glad he did looking at the state of it.
)

LOL @ Graham, Dirk keeps calling it "Brokeback Blue"
I think it's fairly tasty myself, although it's not the exactly the same colour as the car to due time limits I gave Lee the sprayer.
If I had done it done the proper colour it definitely wouldn't have been ready this week.
Cellulose basecoat and laquer would have taken it's time because of having to bake each layer. The two pack that was used was blow on and de mask

Engine is in...
Underside is finished I think (well apart from bleeding the brakes)
Clusterfcuk on one of the fuel hoses though as it's missing it's internal 'O' ring, might have to bypass that for the MOT friday lol..
I am trashed, cant be arsed to upload any photos tonight.

From: Leeds - It was 562.4bhp@28psi on Optimax, How much closer to 600 with race fuel and a bigger turbo?
Andy,
you dont need to bake cellulose... I could paint that in metallic in the same time as it takes to do a basecoat really..
You dont need to leave long before putting the lacquer on, also you dont have to bake a 2k paint, Ive air dried most of my cars.. The new subaru will be being done the same way (except im not painting it metallic
)

I think professionals bake between coats to speed the whole process up.
Anyway.. Tis done now.
Just got home from the workshop/work.
Car is complete, with the exception of fuel in the tank and a drivers seat.
Couldn't get battery lights / on dash so assume there is something amiss with the wiring somewhere. perhaps an earth left off or something, too tired to look at the dam thing anyway so off to get 4 hrs kip before going back there.
It might have fired up had I found the bloody fuel filler pipe / suction pump thingy and was able to fill it.
Bigbrakes watched, passed a few tools, made the tea, kept the morals up all night.
Well done fella and thanks for staying
If I can get it to start and fit a horn push somewhere then it shall have an MOT tomorrow at 9.am (as booked
)
til then......
