Why is everyone so proud of not drinking?! I think it is for a reason.lol.
As dbp said, warm summers day, cracking beer on a hot summer's evening. Then Christmas and a warm mulled wine on a cold night. Beautiful. Then an egg nog on Christmas day. Maybe a cheeky sherry
Then every other day of the year, a night out with a beautiful wine to go with your meal.
Why are English people so embarrassed about enjoying life and so keen to be not seen as a drinker?
I think in secret they are.Lol
Stop worrying about justifying it and enjoy life
Goodness me Daily Mail people make me smile
My God I wish we were a bit more European and did not wear fit twatbits and worry about a snifter. Remember being on a rugby tour at 14 and the french family offering me wine
Get a grip and meat wont kill you either. It's meat. We are omnivores

exactly . I hear them all over the media and the radio saying how hard it is to stop for a month all jokey and jovial and I'm like ...is this normal ...most people saying 'I can't stop for a month it's such a challenge' what the flip, thats some crazy shizzle
I am starting to suspect there are lot more alcoholics about the we generally accept

A hard long-term addict can stop drinking cold turkey for a month, easy. I've seen it first hand time and time again and dealt with the consequences. The real challenge is to stop drinking for a year or more.
There is a difference between drinking to excess out of habit (social or otherwise) and actually being addicted to it. Addiction is sometimes a condition that is often inescapable and incurable regardless of any "drinking culture".

supplementing hard earning migrants incomes, would be easier to just give the money to corperations and big buisness, then make them pay a decent wage in the 1st place ( no resentment then from uk born workers ) being brutally honest if i didn't get ctc i wouldn't bother working, i left school at 15 (now 52) and have never signed on in my life, and yes she is a waster but is spending 70 quid a week on booze but don't drive so unlike us she aint spending out for a car and fuel, she knows i hate her i have called her allsorts over the years (passenger on the platform of life etc) but this dates back to liebour days, have a few kids don't worry we will give you a house money etc all in the name of leftism and buying votes, same as now with in work benefits buying the vote of immies and the poor trump might be a madass but he has the right idea lower corperation tax but make them pay a proper wage, then tax the workers therfore getting more in tax in the long run

I think the reason some of us look forward to a beer certain nights after work or a few drinks at the end of the week is the same reason alcoholics drink, i.e. it provides a degree of relief - a 'good' feeling, especially socially. Like ALi-B earlier in the thread, it does get rid of some tension and help me relax and switch off when I tend to get wound up with stress through the working week. I'm well aware that's how alcoholics get started but I've always kept it at a constant, and there are some nights I'm p*ssed off that I won't even have a beer for that reason. I'm happy enough knowing I can enjoy it in moderation.

I quit drinking this year for january and ended up not drinking for 3 months, main reason was I couldn't remember a period in the previous 20yrs that I'd not had a drink for more than a day or two.
Never really been a big drinker as I'm quite a light weight... fortunately can only cope with about 3 pints, after number 4 it's game over for me so tend not to go there... that said I've drank quite a bit over the past week... bareing in mind I'm a 3 pint wonder... 5 pint session with a couple of mates and a few whiskies after saw me spending half the day in bed and the rest of it wounded on the couch not done that for years, it was only because I was in England and not seen them for a while.
I've now got to the point where I don't drink (generally) during the week and just have the odd one or two beers now and again with a mate here and there... not really that bothered tbh, have the odd glass of wine and a whisky now and then... mostly when I hang out with my whisky drinking mates, also love a nice Pale Ale too, which is how/why I got wasted.
I think I've finally become a responsible average consumption drinker, won't give it up completely though as I do love a pint and a whisky every so often when the opportunity presents it's self.
