Personally I can take or leave alcohol. I do like good whiskey, red wine, port an artisan / Trappist beer, but these days consumed in moderation for taste rather than effect.
There was a time where I would have to be the first man at the bar, and the last to leave, lots of years wasted in a drunken blur, and recovering before getting back on it. Problem was I didn't see it as a problem until I stopped doing it, looking back it was a foolish waste of time and money. Wake up call was temporary loss of vision, and a misdiagnosed stroke at 27 years old - unbelievably sobering!!

I loved Southern Comfort, awesome stuff.
In reply to the other tools that feel the need to pass judgement on the “non drinkers”.....ironically enough I never noticed the non drinkers having a dig at the drinkers.
Anyway, the reason I don’t drink is purely down to the fact that unlike “in my younger days” I couldn’t handle it and would wake up in the mornings with a stinking hangover, it got to the point where I’d crack open a cold beer after a shift at work and actually think “I wonder how sore my head will be in the morning”.....
What ended it for me though was a party, I couldn’t make work in the morning due to the hangover so decided enough was enough. I didn’t want to be in that position again and like I’ve stated it doesn’t bother me. I still enjoy parties, going out and everyone loves me for being the designated driver 100% of the time. Works well for the alcky ****s......

I like having a drink, having one right now I had my first drink at 14, throw up all over my grand parents floor and thought my dad was going to kill me lol decided from then that drink wasn’t for me. I went through my teens without alcohol but started to enjoy it in my 20’s. I very rarely drink in pubs but enjoy a drink in the comfort of my own home. The worse you’ll get out of me is a random post on here or social media or I’ll fall as sleep while you’re talking to me lol

Usually give up drinking Jan to April. Have done last 3 yrs or so.
Cant be arsed this year though.
Will probably just have a drink once a week if footy is on or when friends are round .
Will be hitting the gym though after the Xmas excess of food and drink.
Lifes tooooo short for abstaining altogether

Anything in moderation is fine I reckon.
Those that do drink to excess are the embarrassing ones at the xmas party

Used to be a fairly heavy drinker in my younger years but no longer drink as much as i used to. These days i tend to drink Gin and ale, however i am not against the idea of Wine but have t be in the mood for it.
Might have a couple of drinks during the week with a 3-4 over the weekend but that's about it.
I have nothing against non drinkers, it's their life

Why is everyone so proud of not drinking?! I think it is for a reason.lol.
As dbp said, warm summers day, cracking beer on a hot summer's evening. Then Christmas and a warm mulled wine on a cold night. Beautiful. Then an egg nog on Christmas day. Maybe a cheeky sherry
Then every other day of the year, a night out with a beautiful wine to go with your meal.
Why are English people so embarrassed about enjoying life and so keen to be not seen as a drinker?
I think in secret they are.Lol
Stop worrying about justifying it and enjoy life
Goodness me Daily Mail people make me smile
My God I wish we were a bit more European and did not wear fit twatbits and worry about a snifter. Remember being on a rugby tour at 14 and the french family offering me wine
Get a grip and meat wont kill you either. It's meat. We are omnivores

I completely disagree with you. Why is ‘drinking’ something to be proud about? I have no problem with it at all, no issue with folk hav8ng a drink, celebrating etc etc, but being proud of drinking is ridiculous. Any idiot can drink, but the difference between Europe and us is the culture of drink. 9/10 times I am utterly embarrassed when I see brits drinking abroad. They are gobby, rowdy, want to fight everything in sight and just generally embarrassing. That seems to be standard Brit behaviour.....everything is **** unless drink is involved. I have been all over the world and seen how other cultures drink and treat alcohol, and Brits are BY FAR the worst! I just find it sad that so many people can’t enjoy themselves without the need for a drink.
Just about most other countries are far more cultured about drink.

Completely agree. We have friends in Canada and although they like to drink, it hardly becomes an issue. There are of course those who can't handle alcohol but the majority have respect for each other and don't act like Brits do in Spain. C@nts!

Spanish Cava for me, love a glass with dinner.
Champagne always starts a cracking time when friends come over for a meal.
Been getting into some excellent tasting craft ales as well lately.
Like really nice botanical gin on special occasions.
Glass of Welsh Tap tastes great this time of year when the pipes are really cold.
I drink what I like the taste of, but not to excess.

I am starting to suspect there are lot more alcoholics about the we generally accept
