Thanks for the reply. I'm going to my dads garage tomorrow to give it a good check over however I topped it up this morning and it took about .75 of a litre to get to the full so in 1100 ish miles I don't think is too bad really

I think dip stick is .75 of a litre top to bottom , it's using a fair amount but according to Subaru it sounds like it's ok , it does depend on how it's driven, weirdly if you run it at the max level it seems to take longer to use oil , run it at the lower level it seems to use it faster , I would use a thicker oil any way a 10 or in my case a 15/50

I would not worry too much , if it's driving ok and not kicking smoke out it sounds like it had a moment or when it was measured it was not in the same circumstances as normal , if there is no obvious leaks and it passes an mot then job done

And like I say it hasn't used any oil at all in 1200 miles. Might have been a one of or sometbing.
I'll keep an eye on it.
Thanks mate

The rings on the Pistons apparently rotate which is normal ,they are not supposed to leave a gap but maybe yours did and that's why it's a one off , I think the combination of a bit of oil use plus a dipstick reading before that was not as normal then that was probably the problem , it all sounds fine so don't worry
