Default Oil Usage.

Hi All,

Just a quick one, ive searched and read a number of posts but just want some def answers if possible.

I did an oil change on my car (Blob WRX 2.0) around 4-5 weeks ago, the oil was filled to just under the full mark, i checked it last night and it was on the low mark.

I have prob filled up around 4 times since the oil change so roughly 1100 miles.

Using Millers 5w40 at the moment.

Does this sound like a normal amount to be burning, there is no smoke at all coming out the back, power is very strong, boosting correctly on my gauge etc.

Being new to scoobs im not sure if this is normal

Thanks

Chris

sounds like you are using more then normal,
What I will say is some struggle to read the level correctly as it alters when hot or cold.

Take your front cam belt covers off to see if outs leaking there as I've had a similar issue with someone else's scoob lucky timing as he couldn't tell were it was going and I just asked him to remove the covers to see what timing belt were like as he just bought it only to find oil pissing out :-(

Yeah i always give time to warm up etc, not long had the car so not sure if always used this amount,

I use millers 5w40 at the moment is changing to 10w40 likely to help you think?

Like i say though it is running perfectly no missfiring, strong power, perfect boost, no smoke surely if something serious there would be more symptoms?

Yep 10/40 is more thicker and IMO best to use unless it's running over the 400bhp were the more thinner oil is used

If your handy enough to change the spark plugs front camcovers are a doddle just take your time and you can inspect the belt at the sMe time

Am i right in thinking that if it was a more serious problem like ringlands there would be more symptoms?

At least that puts my mind at rest, i have a litre or two left from my oil change so ill keep an eye on it and check the bits you mentioned, when im out of oil ill change for the 10/40 and see if that improves things,

Thanks for your advice Zany much appreciated.

Hi

A 10w-40 is only really thicker than a 5w-40 when cold, when up to operating temp, they will be about the same viscosity.

Cheers

Tim

1L per 1000 miles is the typical sort of point where you would say its excessive use

Hi

Probably not, unless you were going to go for a 10w-50 as I doubt a 10w-40 would make much difference at all.

Cheers

Tim

Hi

It's a bit thicker than a 5w-40 all round, but it does sound like yours is burning quite a bit of oil, so I don't know how much difference it will make.

Cheers
