Default Decent Track AND Road Tyre

Is there such a thing like a decent track and road tyre?

Like the Yokohama AD08?

I guess R888 are too track focused and would be dangerous in the wet on the road etc.

No fine in the wet, but once worn prone to aquaplanning in plenty of the wet stuff.
Soft compound means they grip well if in contact with the tarmac.

IMHO.

P.S. They were pretty awful up at Tan Hill Pub in the snow...

Thumbs up

Just had 4 new Toyo R1R fitted, noticeably quite and more comfortable compare to previous T1R, sidewall indicate treadwear 140 compare to 240 on T1R, suppose it's a soft compound, very good grip both dry and wet. Highly recommended.

Love my T1R's on the classic, was going to try the R1R's but T1R's are £65 ea. against the R1R's at near £150. Better to have 2 sets of wheels and make the expensive melters last a good few trackdays

Good tyres r expensive, but it will transform and bring the best out of a car, hence more fun, the car will turn and stop better, R1R really suits the classic, might try Yoko or Bridgestone 01R in the future to see the different.

I am using the Ad08's and they are great on road. In the wet I've found to be not be too bad, but dont really push on in the rain. Snow = useless, but to be expected, although I never got stuck so thats a bonus.

I was using the AD07's before these and liked them so stayed with the yokos just the updated range.

I've not tried on track yet, but I'e not run out of grip on the road so I would assume they will perform well on track. I did run them up Santa Pod but thats sticky anyway so no problems there.

Ellie from AET tried the R1R's at Elvington, and wasn't overly impressed.

Dont get me wrong, all the above mention in general r very good, but also depend on chassic set up and road condition, if it's purely for track use , then you have to try different tyres on the same car to see.

IMHO what you need is a tyre that falls between the semi-slick Toyo r888 and a premium road tyre, I think the R8888s are to track focused for a car used mainly on the road, similarly a road tyre isn't up to prolonged track use, as a compromise you could do worse than look at the Hankook Rs2 http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.p...=m12b262s685p0 it's a Blue book B list tyre and gives a good combination of high levels of dry grip, (not quite up to 888 levels but surprisingly close), nice stiff sidewalls and a tread design that moves water to give decent wet preformance, the down side is slightly increased road noise and a more 'choppy' ride due to the stiff sidewalls, all in all a very good tyre at the decent price from Camskill.
