Default 4 pot calipers, piston removal

My rebuild kit has just arrived for my 4 pot calipers. Ive got one piston out of one caliper but cant get the others out as they rusted and stuck in.

How i got the piston out was by putting a screwdriver in the hose line pipe hole and hammering it out but the othere dont have this and i cant get them out.

Tried pliers, grips, soaking them in wd40 etc. any suggestions? or is there a tool for this?

There is a tool,it grips the inside of the pot and if not fully seized allows you to pull it out.

similiar to this

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Sealey-Motorcy...item19c23eb1fd

or,the easiest way,is to,when on the car,bit late now,and use the pressure of the system with no pads in to push them out enough to grip them with pliers etc

Most of the time the calipers we get in to recondition have pistons that are difficult to get out , some times even 150 psi of compressed air won't shift them , so I have made an hydraulic pump made out of hydraulic handbrake for a rally car , that will move any piston.

If you are struggling to get them out , it will be easier for you to put the pistons you removed back in , and fit the calipers back onto the car , bleed them and pump the peddle to get them out , its a 2 man job as you will have to fit blocks or similar to stop the free pistons popping out

Becareful if you do put something through the inlet hole to hit the piston out you can see , as it is easy to damage the thread

Hope this helps
Cheers Ian

I had a particularly stuburn one recently which I drilled, tapped and screwed a bolt down through to force it out.

Most of the calipers we strip down have some rusty pistons , not all would need changing but they all show wear on the chrome plating
I can supply you stainless steel pistons that will never rust for £15 each or £100 a set of 8
Cheers Ian
