Default What to do?

New brakes needed on the Classic Wagon. Currently have a Reddott kit fitted. 320mm x 28mm rotor and bell set up with a smaller red Brembo 4 pot calliper fitted not the usual newage STi Brembo. I've been told that standard size discs do not have the correct offset for the callipers so machining a pair of newage sti discs down to 320mm won't work.

Now, The company that Reddott put me on to want around £800 for a set of AP rotors and then a set of fast road pads.

Godspeed's price is a bit more favourable than the above.

Now here's the dilema, do we go with the Godspeed option and stick with the set up we have or do we get hold of some standard Classic STi 4 pots and stick a set of good discs and pads in them and sell the Brembo callipers to offset the cost? The other option is to go for a set of newage Brembo's and hope they fit under the wheels.

The car is only used on the road. Braking normally left quite late by the main driver so need some good instant bite but lasting performance. Granted most of this will come down to the pad choice.

So what would you do or are there any other options?

Go with the Godspeed

You spoke to my son Ben when you phoned earlier , the calipers you have are the smaller Gran Turismo calipers , they are a good caliper and will work better than the Impreza 4 pots , I know you asked Ben for discs and bells to replace what you have , I can also supply you a 330mm discs and bell to work with the calipers you have , and a spacer to fit between the caliper and bracket to allow fir the slightly larger discs.

I can supply you both the 320mm or 330mm discs and bells , and spacers if needed for £495 a pair inc Vat , P&P is £15

Cheers Ian

Ian, I have the 4 pots on my 96WRX and was looking to upgrade them this year with your kit that uses the bigger discs and spaces out the caliper - is this mod the best way forward or should I try to source euither normal Brembos, or the Gran Turismo calipers or something like the K sport 6 pots?

Thanks

I guess it all comes down to money , the 335mm kit we make makes a massive difference in braking power , as long as your calipers are working properly , we will be offering our 335mm kit out for £499 , you would get some STi brembos for around that , but then you may need to spend out extra on good discs and pads.
A second hand Brembo or AP 2 piece disc kit would be next on the list subject to a good one becoming available , that wouldn't need any money spending on it
Next step up cost wise would be kits like the K sport or D2 , they are the same kit , so just depends again on cost , and from ther kits with AP calipers which are about the best you can get

Hi Ian,

Wasn't me that phoned yesterday. That was going to be today's job . Unless it was my Dad that phoned? Good to know that the kit seems to have been popular when it was first produced. I'd looked up a price from an old thread where I'd asked. We're only just getting around to sorting them out since about last September. It's MOT time next week so could really do with making sure they're A1.

So to stick with the rotors we have with the original kit how much will it cost for a pair of discs with replacement bolts and pads?

Cheers,

Matt.
