Default Sticking brake caliper advice?

My rear offside caliper is sticking, to the point where the wheel can only be turned by a wrench and not by hand. Even then its dam hard to turn the wheel.

Nasty noise when driving and i don't need to use the handbrake anymore as its constantly on. On enough to keep me stationary on a hill.

Is it worth me trying to clean them out and hope they work? Or just get a new caliper second hand?

Depends how confident you are with it: removal and stripping aren't a problem if you have the right tools and soak caliper/brake hose bolts/nuts in WD40 for 24 hours before.

Dealers sell kits to refurbish calipers, as does Ian at High Performance Brakes - Supplying AP and Brembo brake kits for road and motorsport use.

Ian also does stainless pistons, not cheap but they will NEVER stick again

Why not do both while it's off, change pads etc and you've done a real brake refurb?

Don't have a problem stripping it all down, didn't want to buy a refurb kit really though.

Would rather buy a upgrade for the rear instead.

i had this prob on my gt-b and it was down to rust on the lugs of the pad metal plate swelling(for use of a better word)onto the caliper body thus causing the pads to stick rather than be free to move.since then i always remove the paint off new pads with a file and coppaslip the lugs.this enables them to move even when hot.just dont remove too much tho as the pads will clunk in the calipers everytime you brake.(not that i did that!!!lol)its either this or maybe sticking pistons.sorted with a rebuild.brakes hate jet washes too

Do what I did? get a set of STi Brembos from a breakers, clean up and repaint, fit them with a kit from High Performance Brakes - Supplying AP and Brembo brake kits for road and motorsport use.

Fills the 17's nicely

Stripped the caliper down and the seal had broken, causing the piston to stick as suspected.

How much are rebuild kits as i have changed my mind on the rebuild idea?

Should i rebuild both rear at the same time or if the nearside doesn't need it then don't bother?

Couldn't find the right rebuild kit anywhere, so bought one from subura for a reasonable £25.

Refurbed caliper with some new pads and all is well again

Did you try Ian at Godspeed for the kit?

And did you do BOTH sides? New pads on one side only is asking for trouble......

No i didn't was only going to go for the kit if mine were beyond repair... not much cash at the mo really.

I had only done one side when i posted, but yes both are done now, new pads and both calipers refurbed

Thanks for your help!
