rumour has it, the P1 18"s PZeros are on a recall... best check with your dealer peeps... only relates to the PZero on the P1 18", not the '01 Pzero Rosso!

Question

That is odd, as B&C have recalled two sets already.. One customer was lent a set of wheels while they waited for the new tyres.

this was due to the tyre wall cracking, only relevent on the P1 18"s Pzeros...

Best check your tyre walls...

Same here

Had a letter from Listers saying a new pzero compound had been developed for the 18" wheels and an F.O.C. set is available.

if you are unsure ring Subaru

Yep, tis the truth.

Phoned Listers and Mill Lane and due to the potential for cracking on the 18" P1 tyres, Pirelli are repalcing the tyres with a new comppund tyre, for free.

Nice one, that saved me 600 notes then.

slightly different now Dave as the tyres are now using a new compound (apparantly), whereas before they were just replaced with the same tyre.

The "old" type shouldn't be mixed with the "new" type either

Russell - B&C are replacing the complete set of four tyres in one hit with the new compound. They thought I qualified - until I pointed out that I had PZero Rossos.. so didn't save me anything Got 225/40R18 GY F1's on now, £440 fitted @ Micheldever.

Yes I know.

Already had an original set replaced before.

Now, another change.

Guess how much I have spent on tyres in the last 18 mths ?

Would some of you kind P1 owners please help me with my query regarding tyres for my rims. I have just put it to the top of the wheels and tyres section. Any advice would certainly be appreciated.

Thanks !

A bit of clarification for you:

I spoke to Cheam Motors earlier and they still said that no recall existed (I don't have a P1, but my MY01 was bought with the Prodrive OZ 18" Alloys fitted with Pzero's).

I have also spoken to David (Shark) at Lavender Hill who said that a limited recall DOES exist.

It refers to a specific Pzero tyre - the 225/35/ZR18 87Y - the important bit here is the '87Y' - the tyres fitted to my car are '92Y' so they are not included in the recall (plus mine are also a '40' profile - so no chance ). I suspect that this refers to earlier P1s and not the later ones to be shipped.

In Cheam's defence, they did say that they had done searches based on chassis numbers - if they hadn't sold one of the earlier cars fitted with the '87Y' tyres, then I guess it wouldn't show up on a search.

Chris

Hmmm.

All P1's were fitted with the standard STI 16" gold alloy when they arrived in the UK. The 17" OZ Prodrive wheel was then fitted to all P1's once in the UK.

The 18" wheel option was offered as an upgrade to P1 owners and so the wheel will not have anything to due with chasis numbers or age of your P1.

This recall only applies to 18" wheels from the P1 ie, 225/35/18.

Cheers,

MS

Sort off Martin - Shark did say that if my car did have those tyres on it (unlikey as it turns out) then it would be covered under the recall as it is a potential safety issue with the actual tyre.

the "87 y" is the speed rating
ie do not exceed 87% of 300km/h if my memory serves me correctly

The problem has only ever existed with the 35 profile pzero

40 profile tyres for the 01MY supplied by Subaru/Prodrive for the UK300 and with 18" wheels sets are Rossos. Completely different.

Rossos are available in 35 section, but the sidewalls protrude more, and would foul the arches on a P1.

Guys ! Everyone here seems to have a different opinion as to what the exact tyre size recommendation is for the P1. Some say 215, some say 225, others disagree with the profile ie. 35 series rather than 40 ! Come somebody please enlighten me as to what exact size of tyre Prodrive supply via Subaru dealers for this 18" P1 wrc wheel up-grade ? I really need to know as I have just bought a set of rims and have to decide what make and size of tyre to choose.

Thank you !

Ricky !

I have been waiting 8 months for a replacement set of 225/35/18 due to cracking side walls. A set of redesigned & remanufactured PZERO's to be fitted next week FOC

Got mine changes yesterday as part of the service.
Old ones had no cracking, so a bit of a result

Thanks to Lancasters in Pangborne.
