Default Siezed rear disc

Evening!

For the last three days, I have been trying to remove the rear N/S disc from a my2000 classic wrx.

I have done the pads thinking the disc would be a piece of **** but no. the fricking thing is stuck. I've done the cog, i've released the cable but it's still not coming off at the top.

The other three sides seem to be loose and the hub still turns. I've sprayed WD40/Penetrating oil/spit at the point where it seems to be stuck. The shield is rusted to hell, so that's shedding rust all over the place.

Does anyone have any more ideas before i take an angle grinder and cut the disc in half?

A

This happened to me the first time I changed mine. you need the handbrake off, as mentioned, and also need to loosen it. There are a couple of bolts to turn on the back of the disc I think. There is plenty of guides on here showing the procedure.

There should be two holes visible on centre of the disc. Screw in an M4 x 50mm bolt into these holes and the disc will be pulled off the shoes eventually allowing you to remove them by hand.

Default done that as well :)

Tried that as well. Sheared two bolts off, the problem is that they push the sides and the bottom off but not the top plate. Looking at the service manual, it's stuck around the shoe guide plate.

The only thing i haven't tried is turning the disc so that one of the screw holes is over the sticking point and try and pop it off there.

give the disc a good whack from behind in the gap in the backplate where the caliper fits , as the calipers is now out of the way , turn the disc a third of a turn and hit it again , keep doing this and it WILL come off , it is only held on the hub , it will not be coming off as its rusted on , just make sure that you have loosened off the handbrake shoes through the hole in the backplate or you will damage something hitting them off. You also need to make sure they are coming off square not at an angle , otherwise they will jam , thats why you need to keep turning them as your hitting them off
When you do get them off , clean the hub face with emery cloth / wirebrush and WD40 so its free of any rust and muck.

I have had cars in that have been a real git to get the discs off , but if you do the above they will come off.

Cheers Ian

The shoes are away from the disc and the disc is loose, but it's still stuck at the top, even when i turn the disc.

Every time i try to pull on it, there is the sound of springs twanging, but there is nothing seemingly jammed...

I've tried the cog and I think it's loose, and I can see the back of the shoe assembly. Would disconnecting the springs I can see help?

if its stuck at the top even if you turn it then the disc is getting stiuck on the handbrake shoes, are you sure you have slackened off the adjuster inside the assembly, you could have such a bad lip on the inside of the drum that even if you slackened off the shoes it would still get stuck. When it gets like that you haver to say goodbye to the handbrake shoes or the pins/shaped washers that hold them on. it is only brute force that will help if it is as bad as you say.

Having cut off the top quarter of the disc, i can see the problem... the shoes and the assembly has rusted and the tensioner between the shoes at the top of the assembly has broken. and so the top of the shoes were sticking to the disc.

off now... just need some new shoes and tensioner!
