Default Tyre pressures for 215/40/17's on a UK turbo?

Hi guys, advice would be appreciated on the above. Have a set of 17" P1 wheels on my car which is basically a UK turbo and comes standard with 16" wheels and obviously a larger profile tyre. Its meant to run 33psi front/28psi rear...and I was wondering what pressures would be recommended for the wheel/tyre combination I have on it now.

Thanks, Alan

Cheers mate. That seems a little bit on the hard side, it mite be right enough though as 40 is quite a low profile.

iv'e tried all types of combinations but it works for me n i dont get exesive wear on the outside, just changed all 4 tyres over to toyo-1r's,they seem to work well with those pressures in.

I have 225/35/18's P zero Nero's fitted and run them at 38 front 36 rear, no problems. if they drop a couple of psi you notice the difference. with alot of oversteer.

Tyre pressure is nothing to do with wheel or tyre size. It's relative to the weight of the car and thus doesn't change unless the weight of the car changes significantly. The only other factor is if you prefer a certain handling characteristic; high pressure gives light steering but less grip, low feel wallowy but more grip.

Cheers for that. I've always thought that might be the case, very helpful again corradoboy.

Thanks, Alan

I use 215 40's on my classic, and i run 32 front, and 30 rear, i've done a fair amount of experimenting over the 8 yrs i've had the car, and found that to be the best .....

I recently switched to 205/45 ZR17 tyres from 205/50 ZR16. Would you again recommend 32 front 28 rear?

im around ron on this one...

ive got the same wheels/tyres set up as the o.p. and run either 35f-33r or 34f-32r.

more in the front due to engine weight. but the higher pressure in the fronts is a pain for understeer - a common plait on my car anyways.

picked my classic up on Sunday with 17' prodrives (+yoki's) on it was running 30psi all round, just got recommended 30f 33r fromt the performance guy down the road.

Having only just got the car it all seems stupendously gripy! lol

on 30's, a lil bit of understeer going in to a corner, but squeeze out the power and it squats and fires out the corner... but u guys probably knew that ages ago

Would make more sense to have higher pressure ib back as when on power more weights over there?

eh

ask most on here and they will tell you the same, more in front as more weight from the engine. you want less in the rear for more grip as less pressure means more tyre on the road, especially on power

unless im mistaken - which i dont think i am for once.

That's exactly what I run, with 17" tyres, 215/40 Toyos T1R's. I have done for 6 years now.

I run 33F, 31R.

All depends on personal preference, but anywhre around 32-34F and 32-30R is a good start point for a classic IME

Thats me back from Hypertech where I got the wheel alignment done. I'm gonna try 33f 31r or round about there anyway.

makes sense.

I guess it's a case of play around and see what works best for me..
