225/45/17 Tyres??
Hi i've got a 2005 Impreza.
What is everyone replacing there Potenza's with?
I find these to be a bit soft and not very hard wearing, and so i want to get something different. I also found them good in the dry good in the wet but a tad scary in the 'greasy' weather.
Can people offer some suggestions as to what they went with instead and how they compare??

Most people (including me) are going for Goodyear F1 GSD3, but they have recently changed the manufacture from Germany to China, so I don't know if that will make a difference.
I believe they will be replacing them soon with a new asymmetric design (possibly called F1 Eagle Asymmetric?) which might be worth waiting for, if you can.

If you are buying GSD3's ensure you get the ones that are reinforced or else you will suffer the normal tyre flex/cracking which does nothing for the handling or your safety

I replaced my MY05 RE050s (after 22k miles) with F1 GSD3s XLs. They are stickier than the RE050s in any conditions, break away progressively and squeal less than RE050s when they do, but even in Extra Load version the side walls aren't as stiff as RE050s.
If you haven't put on Prodrive springs, it's worth doing so: in addition to several other benefits, you'll find that they will compensate for some of the steering feel lost through softer side walls.
HTH,
Andrew

I'd have got them if Michelin did them in 215/45/17 (ie OEM wheel size). I notice the OP is asking about 225/45/17, so presumably he has different rims.

Sorry.
Mine are RE070's.
When i used to be Mr hot hatch i used to swear by Pirrellis. Anyone had any experiance of these on scoobs? Im kinda tempted to stick to 'what i know'
My cars only done 17k miles its done through 6 tyres and needs another 4!

Sorry to be a bore, but could I suggest you do a search on here: there's been a lot of discussion of this topic. Mike Wood has the best informed posts on here, so perhaps searching for his posts would be a good place to begin.

I've just changed to RE070's and just had a track day on them. Brilliant! Virtually cured my understeer, stick brilliantly - and fine on the road. Can't see any others being better.
Only problem is on track I'm now faster which puts more pressure on the brakes!

i run michelin PS2 in the winter and i agree they are a very good all round tyre. it does make the car handle a bit different though, this is fine in the winter when i take it easy but you'll find yourself taking corners a fair bit slower (at least in dry!)
as tony said, that's not good mileage even if you drive like a loon, it's well worth getting a geometry set up. all scoobs are well out on settings out of the factory and it'll make it a better car to drive
