Default New member needs brake help...

Hi all, I'm new around here, and this is my first post!

Wow! Brakes seem to be a mine field, I guess I need to do some research...

My 03 new(er) shape WRX needs new front pads and discs, and I have a mate who's a mechanic, who can fit them for me, but I need to get the parts...

I, however, know almost nothing about cars, so I may be in trouble!

My car is a standard WRX which potters around town mostly, does a bit of motorway mileage, and occasionally gets a bit of a thrashing, but nothing serious, no tracks days or anything.

I'm skint, so I don't want anything that will break the bank, just a decent replacement for the OE currently fitted.

I'm sure this kind of thing has been asked a million times before, so it shouldn't be a problem for you Scooby experts.

Thanks in advance
Phil

Thanks for the advice. As I'm new to this, what information will Alyn need in order to work out what parts will fit my car? Will the chassis number do?

The fact that it is a blobeye WRX will be enough.

Some decent fast road pads, and a thorough bleed with some better fluid will be a good start.
If you can afford it, get some stainless brake lines aswell to help aid initial bite, and when pushing on road they will decrease long/spongy pedal feel.

Get in contact with Stockcar (alyn) on here, seems a few folk highly recomend this guy.

I potter around town, do a few motorway miles, and (very) occasionally have a short blast through the country.

I think you may have over-specced my requirements!

I just want a decent replacement for the original discs and pads... I don't want to break the bank!

I was trying to help by saying getting some decent fast road pads in there.
I mentioned the stainless hoses just as an option/upgrade if you could afford it and after you fit your new pads.
I wasnt over specing it, i would have mentioned get a big brake kit!!

Just put the oem ones back in if thats all you do.

Just a thought that was all.

GC8Lee seems to have the situation pretty pretty well nailed IMHO

Scoobies gather pace quite quickly between corners on country roads so making sure a visit into the hedges isn't onto the cards a mild brake upgrage is pretty reasonable. A pad / disk change (with a swap to braided hoses) seems OK to me

AFAIK all MY03 WRX's should be the Blobeye....unless there are some very late registered Bugeye's on an 03 plate !!

It matters not as the brakes did not change for the MY01-03 years

Cheers
