Help needed braking issues
Hi all in the last week I have encountered some braking issues and need a fast fix as in 2 week I am off to the moto gp in fast convoy with a few mates and need good brakes to enjoy the trip up….
the car is a 06 wrx with added Zen Power, its got braded lines and Ferodo DS2500's fitted by my dealer about a year ago ish ….
ok the problem I have encountered is strong steering vibration under braking (normally only an issue when under hard ish braking but to some degree under light braking) the only issue is some times there is no problem which is the part I don’t understand it comes and goes but i did/ have taken it easy.
the only thing that has changed in the last few weeks is I have swapped my Goodyear f1s from back to front to spread the wear as the front sidewalls are showing medium wear on the side wall……..
my 1st thought was warped discs but don’t get y it would not be an issue all the time or could it be heat dependent ?????
help needed thanks all
best fix needed and looking for better brakes as a long term goal

sounds like you have pad deposits or warped discs most likely??
like all things depends on how much you want to spend?? ultimate set-up on the Brembo caliper is the Performance Friction 2-piece kit (around £700 at RRP), if you haven'et got that money then some more std discs

Chris, I had exactly the same issue on my modded 05 WRX and as Alyn says it's definitely pad deposits (I was using Padgid 421 blacks/hoses/fluid).
It usually manifested itself during high speed, moderate braking, after being on the pedal for a few seconds. Although I didn't actually feel it there was a real noisy oscillating 'hum'. If I used the really hard they'd very quickly fade as well. Basically the brakes (calipers/disc size) aren't up to the job on the heavier N/A cars (mines had most of the unnecessary weight removed too..!).
If you take a look at the disc surface you may see it. Here was what mine looked like in the end:

Have now sorted it and they now look like this:

Not cheap, but too sort it out, IMHO you need an after market big brake kit..
The difference however is truly unbelievable..!
BTW my AP kit is running DS2500, so it's not the pads..!

I just went for the 4pot 330 AP fronts and std 2 pot rears and the balance seems absolutely spot on.
The braking is now in a different league, amazing..!
Mike at Scoobymania came out the cheapest, I also had him fit them. Top draw attention to detail, excellent service..

Play in front wheel bearings can cause vibration when braking and this can come and go as the bearings heat up then expand and reduce the play. Its worth a check before paying out for new stuff
