Which should I get as an upgrade for my MY00.

"EBC themselves now recommend (as of 2 months ago) red stuff for heavy cars or cars that use the brakes hard - that
includes the impreza for road use. green stuff run too hot on some cars and warp the discs!"

This is a quote from Colin at www.motorsportworld.co.uk about the brakes. I only want them for road use not track. I am concerned that the Redstuff will not work well unless they are heated up under spirited driving first. Is this a correct assumption?
Has anyone had disc(rotor) problems (warping) with the Greenstuff?
Please anyone as I want to purchase new pads soon since mine are soon to be DEAD!!

AP Racing provide Greens with their 330mm 4 pot kit, so they can't be that bad wrt warping, but then maybe their kit can take the extra heat generated

...if greens do run hotter than red, which I need a bit of time to get my head round - does one pad really run hotter than another, or are we actually talking about the ability of different discs (and bells, if u have them) to dissipate the heat generated from the pads?

I fitted greens and found them excellent . Major improvement over standard pads . Done 2 track days and got no fade at all but pads were worn out after that . Changed to reds on advice from EBC . Not near as good as the greens even when warmed up . Not much more bite than standard pads . Went to a track day , wore them down to the metal and had to drive home on the handbrake - that was me finished with EBC and track days . I got a set of mintex 1166's for the track but I also found them to be excellent on the road . As good cold as standard pads and fantastic when warmed up but the squealing was driving me nuts so I'm back on standard pads again as my dealer was flogging them off cheap . I would probably get another set of greens just for road use .

Question

Have you guys been using the Greenstuff with original Subaru discs or do you need to upgrade the discs? Is it thas the discs are too "soft" for the Harder pads?

Power Engineering only recommended fitting the Greenstuff as they said the Redstuff would be useless for normal road use and the Greenstuff would be fine for some track work. Redstuff are a track only pad really. Then I hear all sorts of differing advice from others !!!

I have just fitted Greenstuff accordingly - too early to tell really but they seem very good, and much better feel from cold than the Pagid blues I had previously. (FYI I have Pagid grooved discs).

I have used greens, reds and yellows both on and off track.I found greens were good on road but not on track(okay for 4 laps, worn like wedges after about 30),reds good all round but wore out quickly(worn more then greens but evenly),both with standard discs and yellows, terrible on road, lasted 2 track days but then the brake material started coming away from the backing plates making the pedal very spongey, squeal like a pig for road use.using Pagid blues now, lasting well but need cleaned after track days with rough sand paper despite running Pagid 16 groove discs.they do get noisey for normal driving but a few emergency stops shuts them up.

if Reds lasted longer I would probably run them all the time as I could not fault their performance.

basically they got cooked and went very smooth like glass, the pedal was not as firm but I really had to stand on them to get them to work.the main reason I sanded mine down was a few days after the trackday the outer 1/3 of the disc was looking dirty and rusty.

I sanded the pads with course sand paper wrapped round a panel beaters block to take them down level, but have not put them back in for fear of bu66ering the discs.they where okay on the first trackday.

Currently on my second set of Greens, being used with the EBC turbo grooved disc. The pads do seem to get quite warm with hard road use, but I've only got them to fade on a few occasions and they are excellent from cold.

I believe EBC guarantee their discs for use with their pads - ie, if they warp, EBC will replace them (but best check this with EBC!!!)

I am on my third set of EBC pads and Third set of EBC Turbo disks.
I warped 2 sets of disks, Sorted out by EBC.

1. I have found EBC customer care very good ,if not the best .

2. Their new Red pads are fine. I have no problems stopping my Legacy in London.

3.The new Reds are still a very clean pad.

4. I would be happy to stick EBC on any car or Mountain Bike (yes, they do make the little pads for "Hopes")

5. I must come to a track day!!! Just to see How you guys kill a set of pads so quick !!

Been using EBC greens on standard disks for 10 months.
No complains.....best bit is the brake dust does not 5hag the wheels up...it just washes off with water

Question

Right Guys... EBC GREENSTUFF IT IS. Thanks for all the info!!
Only one more question...Where are the best prices to be found in Scotland? I got a quote from Checkpoint in Aberdeen of 78 pounds plus vat for a set. Is this good?

From me of course, Lizzard, - 15% off RRP on all EBC products!

It really is EBC recommending to sell Red Stuff rather than Green Stuff for the front. I'm just repeating what I've been told. The word is that if cars are using their brakes hard then use red stuff and this includes powerful 4 wheel drive motors like ours. EBC obviously don't want to announce that their Green Stuff may warp discs by running too hot.....

Since I'm 'in the trade' I'm thinking of having a bit of a 'shoot out' on various products on my own STI. Anybody interested? I already have a new exhaust lined up.....Direct competitor to Magnex....Well, I'm interested - I'm getting the first system then I'm giving one away for free......

Cool

Well I'm thinking of running some kind of competition for the second exhaust.

Looks like I've also got a second manufacturer's exhaust to test/give away.

You never know 'Lizzard'....

I'm thinking of suggesting that the lucky winners agree to pay for a rolling road session before and after so we all benefit from the info gained.

Did you ever track down cheaper Denso plugs?
