Cheap(ish) tyres?

Cheap(ish) tyres?
I'm going to be picking up my first scooby in about a weeks time, can't wait! Now, the guy I'm buying from had a set of new Bridgestone tyres 6,000 miles ago, and he told me that they usually need replacing roughly every 10k miles. Is that correct? If so, I'd be interested to know how much a cheap(ish) set of tyres will cost? Also, if I were to go cheap, would there be a noticeable difference? Bearing in mind this is my first subaru/powerful car.
I don't mind shelling out more for tyres, however after buying the Scooby I'm going to be left a little short, and I just want to pre-empt how much it'll cost to get tyres for it.
Cheers in advance!

Dont go for budget make sure they are upto the job. I look at it this way the tyres keep you on the road do you really want to skimp for the sake of a few pounds?
Toyo T1-R's are fairly cheap had them on my fabia and they have clocked up 25K and still have enough tread on them to last for abit long.

I have done about 11k on my Bridgestone Pot's. Reckon anther 2k and they'll be gone. I am buying Goodyear F1 GSD3's (after several hours spent looking at recommendations on here). I wouldn't scrimp on tyres if I were you. When you have lots of power (and you like to use it), the last thing you want is a blowout or something cos you bought a nasty tyre. If you do some searching you will get reasonable prices for reasonable/good tyres. I am looking at £81 a corner for the GSD3's (fitted, balanced, the works). That is a bargain - much cheaper than t'internet prices. If you are in/around Reading I can give details of where this deal is.
What did you expect to spend on a set of tyres? My old Astra was £120 a corner for Mitchelin Pilots so this is much cheaper and they were smaller tyres (I know Mitch's are more expensive anyway, but....)

Toyo are very good tyres even though they are relatively cheap. I've gone through 4 sets of T1 S's which i got around 15k a set. I'm now on my first set of T1 R's which are just as good in terms of grip but much better in terms of wear rate. I've now done 18k with a fair bit of meat left on them

£81 a corner for decentish tyres isn't too bad at all, I could quite happily afford that.. I was under the impression I'd be forking out more.
Thanks for all the helpful responses guys

I'd never put another set of these on a car however cheap they were.
Like most things you get what you pay for with tyres.

I had the same Pirellis on other cars and were fine. Some cars just don't get on with some tyres

Do not put budget tyres on your car. Any car. Ever.
If I had my way remoulds would be illeagal and your insurance premium would reflect the quality of tyre you put on.
They are the only four things that provide you with contact to the road surface, and they are the last possible thing in my mind to skimp on. I'm not saying everyone should fit Yoko R888 every summer, but get a good tyre.
I have two week old 225/45/18 Dunlop SP9000's on my car at the moment, and have to say they feel very good. £112.25 a corner.
Oh, and ignore the bug-eye haters.. they just hate us being special.

AVON zz3's are good, ive got to buy another set but at 85 quid a corner for 215/35/18 ordered from just tyres on the net and fully fitted at the price i think.
good buy i would say, toyo's aren't all that good for me i find the inner side of the front tyres wear out quicker and sometimes split. but hey personal preference.

I'm getting Yoko Parada scpec 2's fitted tomorrow - £72 per corner
oh and the car had Nankang's on when I got it
..the only resemblance they have to tyres is they are black and round - they have no grip under any situation = scarey!!!
