Tyre recommendations
Am sure this question has probably been posted many times so apologies in advance, but has anyone got any recommendations for alternatives to the Bridgestone Potenza RE070's I currently have on my MY06 STI? ... I am on my 2nd set and they now need replacing again and I am not overly impressed by their performance (particularly in the wet) ... Can anyone suggest something better?
Cheers

The RE070s are a semi-slick tyre with massively stiff sidewalls. They have huge grip when it's warm and dry, and bugger all when it's cold and/or wet like now.
They are not really an all year tyre, there are some warnings in the manual that say they are not too good in the snow, bloody right they're not.
I have replaced my worn out RE070s with Toyos for the winter, the Bridgestones will be back on again as soon as it warms up....

I know it's not going to help much but I've got Toyo T1-R's on my fabia covered 25k now and all still have 3mm of tread left. Few track days plus the ring.
Grip is good in the wet but they sometimes can catch you out when they are cold.

A fellow skoda owner had the Toyo 888 fitted to his mk2 octi vRS for the ring and really really rated them for track use.

I swapped to Toyo T1-S. Removed all tramlining and reduced road noise. Not had any problems, dry or wet and have plenty of tread left.
Problem is, there's not many honesty posts of people slating their tyres. So it's down to price/personal preference.

I've just bought some wheels with 225/45/17 Toyo Proxes T1-S and I do get tramlining and don't find them that quiet. (geometry next). I must say I do like them and they seem fine so far on wet/gritted and dry roads. I had a small amount of drift on a large roundabout, but I did stick it in fairly hard to see what difference my new ARB had, wasn't scary and didn't feel like they would let go completely.

I put the Toyos on once - couldn't wait to get them off!!
They might be progressive in their breakaway but the amount of flex in the sidewalls and/or tread made me think I had a flat when I first attempted to "use" them after running them in for 100 miles or so. I even stopped and checked them to see if they were OK.
All comes down to preferences but I have been with Goodyear F1s since. As far as I am concerned they have the best balance between grip, noise and handling.

Hi, I have gone with Michelin Pilot Sports, which are equally as good so far as Bridgestones, but seem to be wearing less - join your local Costco and get 25% off a set! About £380 for the set all in!
