Default max width tyre

Guys,

I have 7 inch wide tyres 7x17 rims etc.

I have parade spec 2 on the car and they have "only mount on 7 inch rim" stamped on them.

I would have thought 215 on a 7 inch wide rim would be too wide ?
What is the max width for a 7 inch rim?
Would I be better off with 205 instead ?

Thanks

James

Nope they'll be absolutely fine, 225 and 235 will fit on 7" rims.

it depends on the aspect ratio as well. the higher the aspect ratio the wider the tire you can put on it (to a point). There used to be a chart on the kuhmo tires site, not sure if it's still there there's probably one on tire rack or any other big tire distributor. There was a book with all the tire sizes/wheel width ranges at the tire shop i used to work at so maybe go to your local tire place.

Usual sizes are 205/45/17 or the more common 215/40/17 on classics.

215/45/17 or 225/45/17 on newage, later JDM MY's go even wider in the 17" size's.

If you're unsure of what to get I'd check out this site Tire Size Calculator - tire & wheel plus sizing and enter in the tires that come factory with the car. then enter in your options. My personal preference is if your going wider go a little bit smaller in circumfrence eg 205/50/17 go to 225/45/17. food for thought
