Question

I've recently had the wheels aligned. Tonight when driving, the front of the car and the steering feel very light. Feels good at very low speeds, but at anything quicker it really doesn't inspire confidence. Below is a printout we got when the alignment was carried out - which means nothing at all to me. Could someone who knows about these things please take a look and see if they think it's ok. I asked for the Prodrive settings, which had been on the car sometime previous... It just doesn't feel quite right...

thanks
Dom

Don't mistake this for anything approaching an informed opinion. It looks like your original toe (difference between the tyres straight ahead orientation and the direction of travel) on the right front wheel was way out of spec. i.e. it was pointing the wrong direction.
I guess sorting this will make the steering more effective and thus give you the impression of less stability?
Anyone who knows what they are talking about is invited to tell me to stick to the day job!
KF.

Cool

Dom

I'll try & check my Elite print-out tonight.

The settings should be in the SIDC FAQ, but I've been there twice for Prodrive settings for PTMW! & Barry has it set up in the computer.

The car should now point where you want it better. Try a couple of roundabouts

A bit more camber and some toe-in up front would make steering response a tad more towards the fun side.

Prodrive recommends mac negative camber up front (usually ~1.5-1.8 degrees), and 1 mm of *total* toe in up front and in the rear.
Rear camber isn't adjustable on the stock struts (if you haven't got the bolt kit from MRT), but it can be equalized by moving the rear subframe.

Have U had the antibump sorted on your RB5?

I'm running silly amounts of toe and camber up front...Leda settings I believe...v hard on the tires...but v fun.

/J - desperately trying to get in contact with his missus regarding the menu choice.

More toe up front sharpens steering reaction (decreases the bump-steer effect on non-powerstationed cars )...and more toe-in in the rear will make the car more stable (not prone to oversteering in other words = boring) powering out from a bend...but it'll decrease steering response.

All in all subtle things...that most of U limey gits won't notice. *lol*

Dom

Right, it's a bit late & I'm missing out on CS time but...

This is for PTMW! for Prodrive settings that were put on at the SAME time as I had the Leda B installed. Elite actually fitted the Leda B too - long story but be sure my wife featured in it somewhere

I also don't have access to a scanner...

For the front

..........Initial.............Spec Min ..... Spec Max........Final
Caster L......................2.00'..........4.00'....... .........
.......R......................2.00'..........4.00' ................

Camber L....-1.57'...........-0.30'..........0.30'...........-0.55'
.......R....-1.55'...........-0.30'..........0.30'...........-1.09'

Toe....L....-0.04'...........-0.09'..........0.09'............0.06'
.......R....-0.23'...........-0.09'..........0.09'............0.04'
.....TOTAL..-0.26'...........-0.18'..........0.18'............0.10'

For the rear

Camber L....-1.16'...........-1.55'.........-0.25'...........-1.19'
.......R....-1.06'...........-1.55'.........-0.25'...........-1.09'

Toe....L.....0.13'...........-0.09'..........0.09'............0.13'
.......R.....0.07'...........-0.09'..........0.09'............0.08'
.....TOTAL...0.20'...........-0.18'..........0.18'............0.20'

Thrust Angle.....Initial...... Final
................. 0.03'........0.02'

Setback Front
.................-1.0mm.......-2.0mm
Setback Rear
.................-4.2mm.......-1.3mm

Track Width Diff.
..................4.8mm........4.6mm
Wheel Base Diff.
..................3.2mm.......-0.7mm

What half of that lot means. I haven't a clue. You'll need to compare the relevant parts....

All I know is that shortly after this setup (25/10/00) I was lapping most things at Brands - including you??

I'll dig out the pre-Leda settings as done by Elite tomorrow...

Question

Dom,

Is that the new style layout for Elite's wheel alignment report?

Had mine done by the about 6 weeks ago and it looks different to yours.

RichardC

p.s Sorry I could not help with your question.

Cheers Puff, BTW the only reason you MAY have been lapping me was the fact you took shortcuts across the grass...

I think you may be getting me confused with another Wagon driver

He had a RED Wagon & as I seem to recall decided to go for a waltz on the greenstuff

I'm sure you know who that was, but just to remind you, his name was David

Got a series of pictures of it somewhere...
