Question

Just swapped to Toyos from S02 - most pleased -

question:

Should I run them at the same pressure as the S02s 1.9 front 2.3 rear ?

I get the feeling that the above pressure was too low anyway as the S02s wore badly (but evenly!) at the edges and not in the middle.

Thanks.

Ran mine at 32 all round , they wore evenly across the tyre . Try different pressures and see which you are happy with .

higher pressures at the rear -now thats a novel concept

The best pressures I find for 16inch Toyos are 33 front and 31 rear

You could go up to 34 front (maximum)

As long as they are not pumped up too much at the front and the fronts are approx 2/3 psi higher than the rear. If not your car will handle all over the place (imho).

Have you been on a race track with 1.9 front and 2.3 rear?? -if so you must be a rally driver to be able to cope

I did hear a comment about some guy running 38 front and 36 rear - but that would be similar to driving on ice!!

Yes - middle wear means that you have the tyre pressures too high

Edge wear is normally an indicator of poor wheel set up, unless they are lasting at least 15k miles and then this would be normal

My toyo's last about 18k miles on the 16 inch wheels and I've driven about 4k miles so far on 18inch rims

Like anything its like Dave (BB) says - try different settings - but try fronts higher than rears and not the other way round to start with....

I see from another post that they are only lasting 12-14k

Get yourself to Michel Dever in Winchester to get the geometry set up properly as a set of tyres should last longer than this....

Would have to say - done 500+ miles on them now and they are fine - the grip is not as good as the S02s but if they last as long I'll be pleased.

I did have the tracking put right and has made a huge difference - goes like it used to when I bought it !
