Smile New Tyers for MY05 WRX SL

Hi All,

I am currently running Bridgestone 215/45/R17 RE050 which have lasted just over 12K. Should I replace with the same or are there better out there.

I am looking for something that might last a bit longer, my old car ran on Yoko A539's which were good for about 15K. Mind you that was not a scoob, so may not last any longer than what I have on now. Good wet weather driving is a must.

Any ideas folks,

Thanks in advance

Dave

Plenty of opinions about different tyres on here if you do a search. Personally I use Michelin Pilot Sport 2 on my 2003 WRX which are on 225/40/18 as I've upgraded the wheels and find the much better than the Toyo's I had before esp in the wet. RE050's aren't a bad tyre though. Not sure if the Pilot 2's are available in 215/45/17. Try www.camskill.co.uk www.mytyres.net blackcircles and see what size/prices you get.

You must do some seriously hard driving (any track days..?). My 05 wrx (RE050) is coming up to 12k and there's loads left on them (est. 50%) and I don't exactly hang around. Have you ever had geom. checked..?

I'm on around 16k on the original RE050s (05 wrx, prodrive springs/geometry), but having said that I had the fronts and rears swapped at 10k, and I do a fair amount of motorway miles.

I'm still amazed though; I've always reckoned on around 10K a corner on previous fwd cars

Read Dazza's comments HERE and HERE. I have the cheaper Sportrac which have also been good, but will definately be getting Ultrac when needed.

Hi All,

Thanks for the comments, to be honest I was a bit supprised myself that they had gone as quick. No track days or sideways action but lots of roundabouts, and some crapy roads that I travel on everyday. I have just found a small split on the front off side one which has a nice bit of flint in it so they are going today.

In light of the positive comments on the RE05's, I think I will stick with them for now. Thanks for all the responces and positive comments folks much appreciated

My wifes car 05 WRX wagon has been going thru the tyres.
Standard fitment? 12500 miles total & the tyres have been swapped front to back.

There is plenty of tread in the centre and inside edge (6mm) but the outside tread is getting close to 2mm limit.
This was the case with the tyres that were swapped to the back (at approx. 8000miles). The roads she drives on are mostly tight C & B roads.

Is there a tracking problem or just too much aggression in corners?

Just clocked 5000 miles on My 05 Wrx saloon and I have had to swop nearside front to rear due to wear (down to 3mm) on the front outside edges. Inside edge and centre are still probably 5-6mm.

No track days, not much motorway mostly town/A road blasts.

Was only expecting to get 10k out of a set anyway as thats what a guy I work with (drives fairly steady - 58yrs old) got out of his Bridgestones on his wrx wagon.

Probably worth a alignment check though - what are main dealers likely to charge ?? - one of the local tyre places say they havent got the information on it as its an 05 car !!!

Forget main dealers, just get a tyre shop with a decent 4 wheel rig to set it up with maximum equal (left and right) negative camber on the front with a little toe in on the front and rear. The rear isn't adjustable for camber but you could add some camber bolts, around £30-£40 to allow this which would transform the handling and would be advisable if increasing the negative camber on the front as there's no telling what the camber is on the rear from the factory.

Does the standard '05 WRX have adjustable camber on the front or is this STI only.
What else is adjustable & how much difference does it make?

Thanks for the advice Mo. Also as well as the above does anyone have what the std settings (well tolerances!) are for a 05 WRX saloon please.

Also Have had a good check and I think it is both inside and outside edges that are wearing on the fronts. I will check the pressures - any recomendations ??
