Question Tyre dilemma

Hi all,

I need a bit of advice please. I currently have a full set of Brigestone Potenza RE011 215/45/17 tyres on my MY00. My front ones need replacing but the rears are only 50% worn (this was my first full set of new tyres on the Scoob and I didn't realise they would wear out at different rates. In future I'll know to rotate them).

Anyway, I'd like to fit a set of Eagle F1 GSD3s, but the cost of 4 new tyres is a lot especially as two of my current ones are still OK. So, should I buy two new F1s for the front and leave the Bridgestones on the back? I've read on here that this can cause handling issues?

The other option is simply to buy two new Bridgestones for the front. Are the F1s worth the extra money if I go for four new ones?

Any advice much appreciated,

Yass

I'd buy 4 new ones..... just to get the correct fitment for a classic, which is 215/40/R17 or 205/45/R17.

The tyres you currently run are the correct size for MY01 onwards.

Tony.

PS F1s are £349.20 for 4 delivered from mytyres.co.uk

Just got my new wheels from the group buy on here, (17 inch redlines) which are fitted with the Toyo T1-S 215/40/17. I was a bit jubious at first because I have never been one for buying 'cheap' tyres, believing that you get what you pay for!

I have to say though, I am very impressed. I havn't used them properly yet (going to let them bed in first) but the ride is so much better than the bridgestone so3's that I had on before. They also feel more 'sure-footed'. Will see how I get on with them over the next few months, but so far, so good!

Ive got the toyos this time round from recommendation but I really feel I had better surefootedness from the michelines (sp) I bought the year before. Still, the toyos were £100 cheaper, but will they last a year?

Get 4 (FOUR) new tyres! Toyos and F1s are used by most people on here.

If you are going to rotate them, you must do it often, like every 2,000 miles or less. The camber on the front means they wear quite differently across the tread - the inside edges wear more quickly and can catch you out.

I've been advised to rotate the tyres every 6 months.. But only front to back, not side to side. Having said that, mine only lasted a year anyway *shrug*

'Handed' tyres can be swapped left/right or front/rear. Pirellis are like this (P-Zeros anyway). But most tyres are 'directional' and can only be swapped front/rear.

Soulgirl, if you're doing a set in a year, you need to swap them every month or two, at least. It ain't time that matters, it's wear

Thanks for all the advice guys. I should perhaps have stated that my MY00 has the standard 17" alloys on it from a MY01.

Looks like four new tyres is the way forward. Now I just need to check prices and decide between the T1-R and the F1.
