what size wheels can I get on an my99
I was thinking about putting some 18 inch rims on an my99 WRX [import] but am getting confused about the specs - can anyone tell me what [if anything] will fit without problems and do they really make them strange to drive, BTW is there a plain english explanation of 'off-set' anywhere.

18's will fit straight on, as long as your cars not dropped on the deck and you get the right offset.
proper offset for 18's is et53, correct tyre size is 225/35/18. mine's lowered 35mm on eibachs and never rubbed even with 4 up and a bootfull of golf gear
i think there is a litle leeway with the offset as you can alter tyre size a bit to compensate, but i wouldn't know what works or doesn't TBH.
i think offset is the distance between the mounting face of the alloy and the centre line of the alloy itself, but don't quote me on that
edit- does it make it strange to drive? **** no, it's the best size wheel i've had on the car and i've gone thru 16's and 17's to find that out
you do feel the bumps a bit more as the tyre is the size of a rubber band and some people report more pronounced tramiling that normal, but i can't say i've found that myself.

Thanks for all the info.
Does rim width make much difference, 7 or 8 inch seem commonly available with 5 x 100 pcd [don't know about off-set, retailers don't often include this info].
