Toyo proxies but Iwouldn't pay £100 for them. Shop around, you should be able to get them for £70.

Daz,

Exactly what i have heard - seems to be a very good tyre all round - and the cheapest of the bunch above

Skunk - do you know of places that do proxes in 18's for £70?? have seen lots for 16 and 17 inch but no where near for 18's

A few people who have run both have told me that Ultracs are as good as if not better than Eagle F1's but with the advantage of being harder wearing. That, plus price & availability made my choice & I haven't been disappointed.

Goodyear Eagle F1's - if you want a bit more mileage, however.....

Michelin Pilot Sports are grippy and sticky..but obviously less mileage for your pennies.

Has to be Proxes T1-R, this is superseding the "old" T1-S. And is also better believe it or not. I use these and am well impressed.

Have you had a set of SO3's on yours. I'd be interested to know how many miles you got out of them and what you thought of them overall

BTW sorry for slight hi-jack there

Got T1-R's on my 01 wrx.VERY impressive both in the wet and the dry.A LOT better than the T1-S's that I've had previously and dare I say it,better than the F1 GSD3's that I've had too (Have em in 225/40x18 too on mine)

Good luck

Eagle F1 GSD3's are all very well, but you need to run rather higher pressures to avoid damaging them. The sidewalls are very weak and easily pinched/damaged if you try to mount a kerb or hit a pothole - I trashed two out of four this way.

Prodrive recommended pressures of 2.3bar front, 2.1rear for Pirelli Pzero Neros on 18" FF7s. I found rather more was necessary on the GSD3s.

Eagle F1 GSD3s are awesome in wet and dry and I thnk they have good ride quality. I use 225/35 ZR 18s. The side wall is easliy damaged, but they do have a protective lip to try to save the rims from the kerb. Also found that the recommended Prodrive pressures of 38 front and 35 rear were far too high and caused the car to bounce - I reduced it bit by bit until it felt about right and think I'm somewhere around 36 front and 32 rear. Tyres are fitted to P1 - not sure how the slightly heavier cars fair with the same PSI though. - Think the Proxies don't last as long - but they are about half the price so who cares! They have superb grip too.

Re somewhere to buy from - I haven't used them myself but have been looking around for tyres and came across Elite in Rainham (London) - they do the F1s for £153 each - which is the cheapest I've found - although I seem to remember soeone being able to get hold of them for £130 on here - anyone?

What's the weight of a P1 compared to a MY03 STi? Definately need higher pressures for the STi - but it also seems to cure all understeer problems, too :-)

Might get shouted at for getting this wrong.... but I think the P1 is 1295KGs.

I think an STi 03 is approx 100-150Kg's heavier. On the tyres, whilst ulimate traction is important, how a tyre breaks traction and is able to slide is always important, and how much feedback it offers when driving hard. I haven't tried the toyo's, so no comment, the Goodyear's have always been my favourites and have been on most of my cars for these reasons. I put Michelin's on my wife's car a while back, slighty vague in the wet, dearer to buy but life of tyre was surprisingly long and have always considered these when pricing tyres. As for suppliers, try wholesale outlets such as Viking International or Micheldever.

I thought thev T1R was a wet weather tyre and not a replacement for the T1s?
Do they wear out quicker or not? Have T1s on at the mo but was thinking of going back to GSD3s because the Toyos are ****e in the wet. I am now in some doubt.
