Question Tyres?

My 3rd track day since getting the new scoob in march has seen the end of my tyres (standard bridgestones) they are fine in the centre, but after rotating them, scrubbed to hell on the sides.

Which tyres are best? Any advice would be greatfully recieved. Any tyres that are a bit resilient to scrubbing on the outside would be fantastic

Toyo TS-1's

I just got four, fitted & balanced & all that jazz for £100 a pop - £400 for the set

Much better than bridgestones, better grip in the dry & wet & also look better

Ronnie at WheelsAround is doing some excellent prices on Toyos.
£60-£75 each including fitting for 17's.

There is a thread on SIDC forum about it.

If you've got a new-age car, then why not ask your dealer if he can get you a set of the WR1 wheels and tyres.

These are 7 x 17 STi wheels in a pewter finish, fitted with 225/45x17 Bridgestone RE-070 tyres.

These are very much a hard wearing track day/dry weather type tyre, with huge tread blocks on the outside shoulders. They took a few laps to get hot and sticky, but gave good grip once warmed up. They also hardly showed any wear in comparison to normal road tyres under similar circumstances.

Downside is that they won't be the best wet weather tyre out there, they are a bit nosier, and have slighty firmer sidewalls meaning ride quality isn;t so good. I wouldn't dare use them in the snow!

You could keep these just for track event/summer use (like I am doing), and use your existing wheels with more normal road tyres for the rest of the season. Would work out cheaper in the long run, and you can always sell the wheels after you have worn down the tyres....

I know you're on a Newage scoob.
But this is a very good report from SiPie, into his findings with different tyres.
