UK300 in Autocar.

In the recent Autocar multi-car test they didn't rate the UK300 particularly well citing the 18" wheels as one of the reasons.
They claim that the bigger tyres were heating up too quickly and leading to increased understeer.
Given that review, is an upgrade to bigger wheels merely a cosmetic one or are there actual benefits to be derived? i.e. should I be planning to ditch my 16's for 17's?
