Cheers Mark,
Would you believe that Ian Godney has just rung up to see if I'm happy, I was out bedding them in so I didn't speak to him, but I've never had that before!!!!!!!!!
First impressions are pretty good, they are 'only' standard size, so I guess a miracle is out. Bite is good from cold, (with Mintex 1144's) only time will tell how they are when they are a few miles old!
Cost........ Ģ425 inc carriage for the discs, bells and pads!

Hi Ron
I too have the Godspeed kit, but I went for the 335mm x 32mm. Seeing as you kept the standard size discs, what width are they out of interest?
The discs I've got do look absolutely massive with only millimetres to spare inside the wheel.

Rosco,
I have to stay with 16's for financial reasons, so therefroe these are 'only' the standard size and width.
I have now done about 150 mikles and can report that they are very good, they drone slightly when you're pushing on, but I think that's the grooves doing their job.
i did ask ian at Godspeed if there was a way to get a bigger disc inside a 16' but he said there isn't room. And anyway, part of the reason that I've gone this route is because I had the Brembo's, and they were just to damn close to the wheel for me to be happy! mind you, they were damn fine stoppers.
As you can see in the pics, there is certainly nothing wrong with the quality of the workmanship, if they end up stopping the car as well as they look, I'll be well pleased!

Before you all go rushing to this man for what I even class as a "quality upgrade" to your car I think you should all know a few things about this company and its boss Ian Godney.

Firstly, I do not want to appear to be bitchy in any way but I do feel that prospective customers should know about the shedload of (very late arrival of goods (4 weeks late), non-returning of phone calls, and sending out only 3/4 of the kit and then saying oops! and still not sending out parts which were fully paid for months ago!)

This company have little or no customer service so be warned

Russell

(Still waiting for brake hoses ordered for 308mm kit - 5 MONTH AGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Russell , Your brake hoses were sent to the same address as the brake kit was sent to , How was I to know your girlfriend was no longer working there , I am claiming off the royal mail insurance and they will be in contact with you to have comfirmation that you have not had delivery of them , As regards to 3/4 of the kit not delivered , I don't class four nuts as this percentage , I told you I would send them through the post but you told me you would get them locally ,
I have not heared from you in months until last week so didn't know you hadn't had the hoses , You told me to claim which I am doing , I cannot make the royal mail go any quicker sorry , As soon as the paper work is done I will send out more hoses , You have run these brakes with the standard hoses for a few months , The braided ones will be with you shortly . Hi All,

I want to speak in Godspeeds defence. Yes service may be a bit slow, phone not answered, but Ian will always answer e-mails and get back to you on the same day. He is a two man company and so sometimes will struggle to answer phones.

He is an enthusiast with the same intersts as ourselves and will not have the same resources to pour into a customer services department as would Brembo or AP.

As you will see his prices are much keener than than most after market brakes and quality is extremly good. I think that we all know that we are dealing with a small company who's product is first class and the price is good, so maybe we should accept that the service is going to be "slightly" slower and excuse him for not answering his phone.

Thanks
Mark

My Godspeed brakes arrived today, will report next week to let everyone know what the performance is like. Everyone else that I have spoken to rate it very highly.

Unhappy

Gentlemmen,
Do not get me wrong as I am not here for a slagging match. I always have and always will continue to recommend Godspeed equipment to all my friends with fast cars as I feel the kits represent fantastic value for money and even better quality. The reason for the bitch was that I felt that I was being fobbed off (my opinion only) but now (finally) things seem to be in motion.

Sorry for the rant Ian, I was just letting off steam. (should of done it more quietly I suppose!)

Question

I run a MY97 5-door on 16 inch STI wheels, std disks (probably the originals which were under the original 15-inch wheels).

I just rented a Merc C200 kompressor auto and on returning to my scoobie I noticed there is much less bite to the scoob's brakes. The disks may need replacing (48K) at the next service (rear disks replaced under warranty at the last). I'd like to upgrade the spec if you think it would be worth the additional cost.

Does anyone know a reputable company near the South (Berkshire) who could supply and/or fit godspeed/comparable disks and ideally 4-pot callipers?

I don't mind if the callipers are Subaru OEM or a decent aftermarket 4-pot (i.e. strong, light-ish and fade free).

I do intent to do some track days in future, but don't think a small AP/brembo kit under 16's makes very much sense. It think if I did that, I'd want a brake support bracket and probably braided hoses and don't really want to mod that far.

I'd appreciate any comments.

cheers,
Rob.

Question

Ron,

I have been speaking to Ian at Godspeed about the same kit, though he mentioned to me it was possible to get a spacer to widen the caliper and allow a 28mm width disk in.
Is this what you have gone for? Or are you on s atandard width disk.

RobScreene,

There seems to have been so much written about scooby brake disks, its hard to know where to start.

Definitely consider moving to subaru 4pot calipers, they seem quite cheap secondhand these days.

From my investigation, it seems any one piece disk to fit the standard caliper is always destined to warp if used on track, be it pagid, black diamond whoever.

One of the benefits to moving to the big brake kits from the likes of AP/Brembo, is that you get two piece disks (disk rotors on alloy bells). These sort of disks are far less prone to warp as I believe the alloy bell dissipates the heat better.

Godspeed offers the standard one piece disk to fit under the 4-pot caliper (around Ģ200), but more interesting a two piece disk to fit under the same caliper for Ģ425. But once you have the alloy bells you will only ever replace the disk rotor, mating it to your alloy bell, so the replacement disk cost is more like Ģ200 after your initial investment in the whole kit.

It is this two piece kit I am having fitted to my car, by my old mans garage just south of Reading in Beech Hill. Email me if you want some contact details.
(SHAMELESS PLUG - They don't charge the earth and have been playing with racecars and dragsters for years, so they know their stuff)

Godspeed can supply, Subaru 4-pots (second hand) with 335mm discs (with bells) and mintex pads all for Ģ750. I would definitely go for the two piece discs.

Not bad price I thought but I have not driven the car since it was installed. It is waiting at the garage to be picked up tonight and then it is the slow processof bedding them in......can't wait!!

The guys who fitted my kit says the Godspeed kit looks to be very good but the true test will be driving it!

Wow, thanks for the quick response guys.

Ian from godspeed emailed me some details and I have looked at their useful website.

As I am worried about mis-matched piston surface area messing the brake feel more than I want alu callipers. I do like the reasoning for alu disk bells, so see the Ģ775+fitting listed below.

I would also rather a good, local garage did the work, so dela's fathers garage fitting a Ģ425 alu bell disk kit+Ģ10 delivery+s/h subaru 4-pot callipers+pads???+labour may work out more preferable.

Oh and I'd rather not invalidate too much of my extended 5-year IM warranty.

Any further advice appreciated.

cheers,
Rob.

Ģ550 308mm Four Pot Conversions for 16" Wheels
=308mm Discs (any spec)
=Aluminium bells
=Pair of four pot calipers (make???)
=Mounting brackets, nuts & bolts
=Mintex M1144 fast road pads
=Full Fitting instructions

Ģ775 As above, Subaru 4-pots (NEW)
Ģ575 as above, Subaru 4-pots (NEW), no alu bell.

Ģ700 Wilwood/Billet alu callipers kit
Ģ800 Brembo 308mm 4-pot alu kit (make of disk?)
Ģ850 As above, Porsche alu Porsche/Brembo calipers (make of disk?)
Ģ900 AP 308mm 4-pot alu kit (make of disk?)

If I changed to 17" wheels it appears the following proces would apply:-
Ģ650 godspeed 325mm kit
Ģ975 Brembo 325mm kit
Ģ1075 AP 325mm kit

Question

I'm confused over the 308mm kit.

I asked Ian about this, and he said the Subaru 4-pot caliper + standard 16" wheels wasn't compatible with the 308mm disk, meaning I would have to look at Brembo / AP / whoever calipers?

Can you set the record straight Ian?

No problem , if you want to fit the Subaru four pot brakes they are fitted with 294mm discs , If you tried to fit our 308mm disc the discs is too big and would hit the inside of the calipers , As the calipers are only 14mm bigger they dont come out far enough to fit a mounting bracket , so thats why when you fit the disc and bell they have to be the same size as the original discs or 335mm , by going up to 335mm gives enough room for a bracket ,
Also , regarding the Subaru four pots we are able to supply brand new ones for Ģ350 pair , As second hand ones seem a bit thin on the ground at the moment ,
Hope this helps , Ian

I have the standard size and width disc, we'll see how they cope with some abuse, I'm hopefully planning a trip to castle combe soon, but, it'll only be for a five lap session, so they won't get tooooo hot in that time, hopefully.

Question

Sorry folks, I'm a bit lost here now.

Ian, when you wrote "callipers only 14mm bigger", don't you mean same size calliper but just mounted further from the centre of the wheel hub???

Does this mean there are options from godspeed that would allow me to safely use 335mm disks under standard 16" MY98/STI wheels.

thanks,
Rob

I have emailed you but when you have received the money is more difficult to you answer me because you are "only two persons" to work, but until I had not done the money transfer, your answers was the same day. I have delayed my summer holidays on three days to receive the goods as I told you and donīt received nothing. PLEASE TELL ME SOMETHING ASAP IF YOU READ THIS POST WHEN YOU ARE NOT WORKING.

I send this post because I have seen your last post on 03 august 2001 05:22 pm, and I have been waiting from the 8-1-01 and actually you have not told me nothing about the couriers.

"Hi Enrique , Your discs are being sent tonight , when the paper work is done I will send you the tracking numbers , They will be sent with Parcelforce , Many thanks , Ian" 7-25-01

"Hi Enrique , the kit was sent last week and will be with you any time , Thanks , Ian" 7-30-01

"Hi Enrique , the tracking number is +++++++++ , I will contact the couriers to find out when you will get them , I will email you later , Thanks , Ian" 8-1-01

"Email me your address again so we can make sure it's going to the right address , Thanks , Ian" 8-2-01
