Track Day Tyre Pressures.......again

Tyre pressures are a fiddly one.
Normally I run mine +10% at least for track days and have always had even tyre wear, and minimal overheating. Thats the problem low pressures and high speed coupled with aggressive cornering heat up the tyres significantly, so the higher the pressure the better. Trial and error is a factor as driving styles differ, plus suspension settings differ too. My wheels are 17" with S02's. Normal road use I set them at 34psi front and 32psi rear. For Dono they were at 39 & 36.

I remember reading a lengthy thread recently about setting your pressures way up (40psi +) for track days (From Mike@PD I think). I've tried searching and for the life of me can't see it. Anyone point me in the right direction?
AND....
When these high pressures are mentioned, are we talking hot or cold tyres. My hewn from granite "Nankang" tyres, which I intend to offer up to the Silverstone alter this weekend say Max Pressure 35psi on the sidewall. If I set them at 35psi when warm then run around the track for 1/2 an hour surely they'll get up to 38-39psi, d'ya think this is likely to be in their Usage range?

OK ive used the same tyres on the 22B for 3 track days now and they are still great asside from the edges slightly. Ive been pushing 36 psi through them and when upto temop they get to about 40ish which makes them last so much longer.
Gonna use the tyres again on the next track day

Yes I am, some people are putting in more but I havent tried above 36 yet, it also comes down to which tyres your using as ive been using Conti's which are crap in wet but hardly wear in the dry and even when hot thety don't die like SO2's.

Your conti's sound similar to the Nankangs I'll be using. I wouldn't want them on the car for road driving, but for staying out on track ability, they are probably just the thing.

Hey s'funny, same story with my 'top quality' Capitol tyres running at 38 and 36 almost no tyre wear from a track day (apart from the edge of the tread blocks.
They work fine (once warmed up !) in the dry, a bit oohh errr in the wet but hey that just makes it interesting. Much better then those crappy SO2's that lasted about 4 sessions :grr:
Oh yeah and they don't seem to overheat like SO2's (as Harj has also pointed out)

Mike is a m8 of mine and the tyre pressures quoted are at temp. After a couple of laps just check and re adjust pressures.
I know the side walls say do not exceed X amount of PSI but according to mike you will not generate enough force or heat to explode your tyres. He knows his stuff, trust him
