what size 17 tyres?
#1
I know this has probably been flogged to death.
But having obtained a lovely set of oz super t's in gold i'm gagging to get them on the car asap.
But im worried about what size tyres i should get. I DO NOT want any wheel arch interaction so am interested to see what everyone else is running and if they have problems (especailly those that are running lower than standard ride height).
I've been offered 215/45 falkens for £60 +vat each but am worried these might be too broad.
Any cheap tyre places would also be useful.

Hi.
It's 205/45/17 or 215/40/17. You'll have no problems with either it's just down to choice. I run 215/40/17 Toyos (you can get these for £400 all up) on ST2s with the prodrive suspension and the're fine.
Other people will be able to give you locations to buy tyres, mine came with the wheels (from a dealer).

Yes, 215/40 tyres fit perfectly well.
I'd be tempted to pay a bit more and get a better quality tyre than a cheap set of Falkens. Why pay 10k+ on a good car, several hundred pounds on flash alloys, and then save a few quid on the only parts that connect your investment with the ground ?
Having said this, I haven't heard any reports good or bad on the Falkens, and may indeed be a bargain.

From memory the falkens are bridgestones budget arm and Bob rawle is always saying how good they are on road and track and much harder wearing than my current toyo proxies (which i killed in 7k i might add).
Providing im not gonna hit the arches im tempted to give them a try, am only getting them this cheap thru a 'friend of a friend' type deal
I stand corrected, make that dunlop.
But with sti lowering springs as well im being told to stick to 205/40 shame.
Time to rinf round the toyo dealers methinks.

Hi,
The choices are - 205/45/17 as Prodrive wheel upgrade. or 215/40/17 - You have a far bigger choice of tyre available and this is closer to the rolling circumference of the standard tyre.
215/45/17 I think would not be a good size.(could be too big as you say)
I have 215/40/17 with the Leda B suspension (30mm lowered) with no problems.

Yep, it's 205/45 or 215/40. The 45 / 40 part is (I believe) the percentage of depth of the sidewall to the width, or something like that. So 215/45 would be too deep!!
Mines been lowered and I have no problems at all with 215's.
