Cool

Thanks for the trip Greg, great fun - I assume your disks felt fine on the way home, and you'll try some heavy breaking before Silverstone. Good luck on Sunday, I'll be waiting for an update next week

Well after many questions and searches on brake upgrades I plumped for the Prodrive disc upgrade - Subaru part no SACC2470 and pad upgrade (Ferrodo DS2000) Subaru part no SACC2471. £500 fitted inc VAT. (Yes I know I could have got cheaper 3rd party upgrades). I also spent time trying to get the DS2000 elsewhere. I found 2 places that sold them, but they cost more than a dealer!

They had there first real test at the airfield day yesterday and I had no brake fade at all, stayed out for the full session every time.

Had some serious judder right at the end of the day, which I have been told is:

"Sounds like you managed to get the pads to overheat slightly. At this point they start to deposit material on the discs. Eventually this will warp the disc as one area has more friction and heat builds up. This wears off in normal low temperature use so should be ok again for Silverstone"

Next test Silverstone on Sunday

Hi Greg

Are these pads & disks an upgrade to the standard MY99 & MY00 4-pots?

Did you suffer from much fade on track before?

Let us all know how Silverstone goes.

hi greg

just spoke to my dealer and he quoted £280 per disc??? I already have the ds2000 pads front & rear but am suffering from warped discs on the front so i am interested in your upgrade. could you confirm the disc price so that i can let the dealer know as £280 each + pads is a lot more that the 500 fitted that you quoted

thanks

Simo the price is £140 per disc + VAT + fitting.

One thought I've just had, if the dealer will replace your existing discs under warranty, how about you offer to pay the difference to upgrade?

Some dealers offer 10% off fitting + parts to SIDC members, hence my total all in one
price!

oh, btw what are the symptoms of your warped discs? Mine juddered at the end of Abingdon but now seem fine.

Greg

Still can't believe people pay £500+ for front discs and pads. My brake set-up cost £170 for pads and discs. They have never faded - even on track, and the stopping power hurts. Pads and discs are covered for 'non-wear' problems, what else does the extra £330+ get you??

By the way, Ferrodo pads can be sourced for £35 rather than £140 dealers charge.

Gary, please tell me where you can get Ferodo pads to fit a MY99 or 00 scoob for this price. I searched everywhere.

Also your £170 cannot be done anymore. Pads are £60 + VAT for Mintex 1155 pads from Falkland. Discs are now £180 from Leyland,so that's £282 inc VAT + fitting + delivery.

Still cheaper than £500 I will grant you!

I paid extra for Prodrive approved/Subaru fitting + the discs are spiral vented and grooved.

Each to his own,

Greg

Greg

Did you notice that the Ferrodo DS2000 pads also fit a Nissan 300 ZX 3.0i 24v Turbo 3/90 -.
If anyone wants to check this out the Ferrodo Ref. on the pads is FCP 986S.

John

Hence why available SO much cheaper than from SUK.

It is true that TAS have increased the list price for the Bremsport discs (enterprise rules ) but who pays full price? Haggle and you will get them for £150inc VAT - like most have!! Bremsports are also grooved and vented, mate them with roads pads, Green Stuff seem to be a betteroption than the ferrodos at any price, and you will still be the right side of £200, even with 'competition' pads such as the Mintex you will be within a tenner of £200

But then I'm a Yorkshireman, so saving £300 is like saving a life!!

gregh,

I'm planning on doing an brake upgrade (MY00) before my next visit to Snetterton with the LTR (26/11/00)and I found this old post of yours...

Are you still happy with your dealer-fit Prodrive disk and pad upgrade? (not the Alcon 17"kit)

I was interested in the feedback you got which indicated that a slight judder could have been cause by 'high friction' deposits on the disks which can be cured - as this might be my experience.

The last time I was at Snetterton, I ran a completely standard setup and after some early rain a drying track and a passenger to impress led me to experience some of the dreaded judder under hard braking (not during lighter braking on the same lap mind you).

I assumed at the time that overheating had permanently distorted the disks - but on reflection perhpas this would be evident during lighter braking as well?

Thankfully, it appears to have cured itself and not reappeared during normal driving (less aggressive braking) so perhaps I have cleaned up the faces of my disks?

Anyway. Back to the upgrade issue....

Does the SUK dealer upgrade include braided hoses and higher pec fluid?

I assume that it would be ridiculous to do disks and pads without doing the fluid and the hoses at the same time? as you would be left with a similar chance of ending up with a soft pedal (or worse).

Regards,
Stephen

Hello everybody!

Very interested in the EBC greenstuff and Bremsport discs!
As I'm living in Switzerland I cannot buy it here. Do you know, from where I could order the greenstuff by email? Is EBC a UK-company and if yes, do they have a homepage? (Bremsport?)

greetings and thank you for any information

Stephen,

Sorry for the delay in responding, been a touch busy!

Yes I'm still happy with them, I decided I did warp them, so the dealer swapped under warranty.

Since then have done Trax 2000, and they were fine, despite v heavy braking on a v hot day!

>> Does the SUK dealer upgrade include
>> braided hoses and higher pec fluid?

no.

I haven't done either at the moment.

I've just had a quote from my dealer to fit 4 braided hoses and replace the fluid.

£210+VAT

Ouch!

They must be 'really difficult' to fit as I'd imagine that the parts should be under £100 (inclusive).

My argument, foolish though it may be, is that I would have thought for anyone investigating spending money on an item such as brakes should at least have a choice of which pads are used in them. Or be told of the options. I now have carbon metallic pads.
My discs are nice and shiny. with the EBC I was getting "hot spots" on them.
As soon as AP sort out 2pots for the rears I will get them. But I don't want EBC anything now.
And those pads I had disintegrated big time.
And I didn't do that many laps either.

Stephen,

I have bought 4 Goodridge braided hose for about £40 recently. So assuming that I have the correct ones you should not need to spend that much. Also on fitting, my dealer said about 2.5 hours for front disks, pads, fluid and all 4 hoses to be changed. I suppose this is about £120.

Stephen,
This is well expensive,at dealer had braided pipes and new pads fitted as well replacing the fluid to Dot 5.1.Oh and 17500 mile service total inc service parts (not brakes, pipes) £225.

If you want the name of the dealer e-mail off line.

The braided pipes certainly add some feel.

Carbon Metallic pads will EAT your discs from what i have been told.

Save your money on the 2 pots as your car is worth little as it is
