EBC green stuff REARS??
#1
Hmmmm...I have never seen EBC greens's for the rear, and I have just fitted some cheap Ferodo's.
I believe all UK cars have the same rear set-up, although some STi's have the two-pots.
Stef.

Has anyone fitted Green Stuff pads to the rear calipers on an Impreza??
EBC have sent pads that are nothing like what they would need to be. (c1cm 'wider' than the disc itself!). They claim these are right, and that Imprezas from the same MY have different rear calipers and disc sizes.
Do rear calipers vary??? or are EBC just crap???

EBC are adamant that the ones they sent are Green Stuff for 98-on rear calipers for UK spec car??
Subaru dealer said nothing has changed in rear braking set-up in that time, EBC say subaru are wrong, and that they know better??
Conclusion - EBC are indeed crap
Stef - what Ferrodo pads did/do you use on rears?

Hi
I bought some 4 pots from Bob Isles MY00.He also gave me the standard rear MY00 pads which had been replaced as part of his brake kit.
I have compared them to my MY98 rear pads and they are a different shape. The pads are roughly the same size and the area of the friction material is similar its just the backing plate that locates differently.
Bobs car has the later UK spec rear brakes which have the thicker vented rear discs but still have single pot calipers and my car has the earlier non vented set-up with single pot calipers.
I think they changed to the vented rear set-up at the same time the fronts changed to the 4 pots which was for the 99 model year? (about 9-98 ?).
I have also seen imports with vented/2 pot rears but only 2 pots on the front, weird!
I can fax you the different shapes on Monday if you e-mail me with a number.
Andy

Andy these are a totally different shape, and wider than the disc itself. The proper ones are a curved rectangle, almost twice as 'long as wide', the EBC ones are near square.
Do these sound like yours?

As Andy says, the rears went wider vented in 99 on standard Scooby...sounds like your pads are wrong but it isn't unknown for makers to put parts onto cars from other part bins just to keep the production line moving....I've seen Peugot 306's with fuel filters that are unlisted anywhere,...the part that fitted was the same as a Ford Mondeo!!!!,also very mixed versions of pad/caliper disc combinations.....sounds like it could be one of these, although God knows what combination you've got!!!

Gary, they don't sound right to me,both the pads I have are rectangular. They are both about 11cm long and 4cm wide and they don't overhang the disc.
It sounds like the pads they sent you would need a bigger disc and I don't remember reading anywhere that the rears have changed on the UK cars.

'Premium' is the correct name.
These pads are supposed to match or exceed OEM quality.
For Ferodo upgrade pads, you might try a DS2000 set. (That is, if you wanted to.. )

Stef, my car is a MY99, they say they do them, but they are completely the wrong size, and would need discs at least 15mm wider to fit!!
Unfortunatly they don't listen and claim to know more about the size and make-up of Impreza rear calipers than Subaru themselves!!

Well you can't actually buy pads from EBC direct, are you sure you're talking to them?
They use an agent to sell their stuff for them.
I'll see what I can find out for you seeing as I live 1/2 mile from the factory.

Hi Gary....
Seems to be lots of debate going on about EBC
Well if it's any help I can tell you that I am using Red Stuff on the front and Green Stuff on the back.....
seems to provide the best braking on standard 2 pots
The technical guy at EBC is Andrew Bartosiak and he can be contacted on 01604 583344, he's a good bloke so give him a call
All the best

Bought from a supplier, but since the ****-up has been obvious I am talking to EBC direct on an 01604 number. They are crap (IMO).
Told me Subaru were wrong, and that discs and caliper sizes vary on MY99??
Stef, please do find out what you can, but I have less confidence in them having dealt with them (direct) for 2 weeks, than I have in Tony Blair Your overwhelming loyalty to them is obvious, but on this they are wrong, and full of crap!

Gary.
I have no loyalty to EBC at all. I've tried all their pads and a couple of them performed well in the given conditions, that's all.
I've dealt with Andrew and he knew his stuff, so speaking to him may be of use.
Stef.
PS Subaru discs and calipers may well vary on MY99's if you include STi's.
