Brembo Group N or Black Diamond grooved disks
#1
Has anyone tried both Brembo group N and Black Diamond disks? I am likely to get Mintex 1155 pads due to their reasonable cost, braided hoses and better fluid but am unsure as to which disks.

I've now got 1155's on the rear and EBD greenstuff pads and grooved discs on the front. The 1155's completely sh&gged my standard discs, but Subaru said they're replace the discs under warrenty so long as I changed the pads (the discs had done 45K !!!) I declined their kind offer, but they fitted the new discs for half price. So now I only get half the squeal as before - just from the rear. And the green stuff pads are much better than the 1155's for normal use cos they don't seem to give off any brake dust.
cheers

When I bought my WRX in Feb. this year it needed new discs. I fitted Brembo Gp.N discs which lasted about a month or 750 miles before the dreaded brake judder started. I fitted another set which lasted 10 days before they became warped.
Demon Tweeks swapped them under warranty for a set of EBC discs. They lasted for 2000 miles before they became unservicable due to the grooves machined into the disc became so badly worn they disapeared in the centre section of the swept area of the discs.
I have since fitted black diamond discs and can report they have no discernable wear or judder after 2000 miles.
I think the only solution long term is for an AP big brake kit.

Cheers Andy Gough,
Thats quite cheap!, or Have I been paying over the odds!!!.
I am currently using the Mintex 1155's, are you still running these as well with the black diamond discs, The reason I ask is hopefully (wife permitting)in the next couple of weeks I am putting a set of STi 4 pots on, with new pads Mintex 1155's/ Tarox/or EBC green stuff -- can't make up my mind yet, however the £40 +vat looks tempting.
I just might have to put up with a bit more squealing!!!.
And hopefully after every bodys comments I'll fit the black diamond discs.
BTW, is Partco a national company???
Do you have any contact details, web address etc.
Much appreciated.

Going through the same problem.
After replies from "no one wants to help"
have decided on Pagid fast road pads, brake support bracket, braided hoses and AP racing fluid. I was still unsure of which disks to go for, but after reading this thread ( have to chat with Mike at Scoobymania first ) the Black Diamond combi ( Cross drilled and groved ) is now looking favourite.
Anyone got these fitted?
Jon

Muddy - bed 1155s in properly and they won't squeal, or at least mine don't!
As for discs, when I was looking, Black Diamonds got a poor write up. I went for Bremsport grooved discs (now c£150/pair). Have done almost 20000 miles with no problems or any real sign of excessive wear. Run with 1155s they transform the braking.

I think with alot of high performance brake pads being either fast road or competition the tendancy is that the warmer they are the better.
Unfortunately I have 2 reasons why I believe i get squealing with the mintex pads.
1.. It's not run often enough(petrol prices, running costs etc etc- Thats my excuse anyway). So when I do go out 50% of the time the brakes just don't get hot enough. When they have been used however and are hot they are the dogs b****cks and don't squeal.
2.. I live in the middle of nowhere, with very few cars on the roads so the brakes are used at a minimum when I am "cruising".
That is why I have been thinking about changing to a different manufacturer with regards to the pads.
Bremsport Grooved discs.......... MMmmmmm I'll have to look into them.
Cheers,
Muddy.

Gary C,
I remember that you got your disks from TAS and have posted their part number but I can not seem the disks on TAS's website. I have tried to search for your previous post but can not find it. Can you please post the disk part number again if you still have it.
Thanks Brendan

After having a drive in my mate's Scooby, I can highly recommend the new EBC Turbo-Groove discs combined with their Green Stuff pads. They worked superbly for the hard 1/2 hour I gave them. I have always rated Greens for road use, but they would be no use on track.
If it's a decent fast road set-up your after, it may be worth calling Mark at TYRES NORTHAMPTON on 01604 588599. The price is bloody good too!
Stef.
