Question

Why does Prodive and Subaru UK developed the P1 with 205/45x17 P Zero's but does every single message on the BBS recommends S02 PP's?

I'm thinking of changing to TSW 17x7 wheels with 205/45x17 P Zero's.

Any thoughts?

Thx Peter

Thumbs down

IMHO so2's are poo !
Having tried both P Zero's are better when at the limit, so2, dont slide as well, are the heaviest tyre in their class, create a lot more road noise and are more expensive.

EVO

It's all to do with Pirelli providing the rubber for the WRC cars.Probably something in the small print. Prodrives "driving enhancement package" also specifies P Zeroes.

Road noise matters in an Impreza? You need a better stereo or fruitier exhaust! ;-)

I'd also disagree about the price difference -- Micheldever sell PZeroes and S-02s for the same price (give or take a quid, 16" for £105).

I would like to know how much weightier S-02s are than, say PZeroes, or any other performance tyre. Thanks,

Paul

Dont know which is the best tyre, however Ive no complaints on the P Zero front.

Doesnt Bridgestone recommend the SO2's as a NON Scooby fitment in threads about a year ago ?.

When I phoned Micheldever for a quote on S-02 PP'sfor my WRX, they immediately stated that Bridgestone do not recommend these tyres for this model of car...

Weird... (I went for the S-02's anyway )

Question

How come when I phoned Micheldever for SO-2's, they asked what car it was for, and then gave me a price!

No mention that they are not recommended for a Subaru!!

Apparently Bridgestone do not recommend them for 16" tyres on Impreza's because of the side pressure that can be exerted on them, 17" are fine, and it seems 50/50 as to whether people like them on the 16's

Bridgestone recommend the RE01's which UK Subaru's come with as standard. I believe this is an OEM tyre (very cheap to the manufacturers) which is therefore more expensive to refit than the SO2's.
Just looks like Bridgestone trying to increase their profits to me as most people will fit the tyre that came with their car.

When phoning around for prices for my 2nd set of S-02s last October Micheldever REFUSED to quote me (and sell me any) because they said they had it in writing from Bridgestone that they weren't suitable for the Impreza.

I really pushed the guy about it because I bought my first set 6 months earlier (and my 3rd set this month) from Micheldever and because people on the BBS had the same tyres fitted by them onto the same car a couple of weeks earlier, but he would not budge. I was not amused. Had to buy elsewhere for more money.

Guess they've now realised how stupid it is to turn away business like this.

I got a set set of S-02's fitted by Micheldever recently. When I called them for a quote they said that Bridgestone don't recommend them for the Impreza.

After a bit of digging I was told that they had to give me fair warning, but that they (unofficially) thought they were a great tyre on the Scoob.

I changed from S02's to Goodyear F1's (16") a few weeks ago and can still not get over the improvement.
I had been thinking there was something wrong for a while. I was constantly checking pressures and the geometry and i was even thinking that i had a prematurely "tired" suspension.
Grip wise i don't think there is much in it (although i'm still experimenting) and the f1's seem to slide more progressively. However, the biggest improvements are steering feel and a firmer ride. The previous "floatiness" has gone and i'm a lot more confident in the feedback i'm now getting - even the girfriend can tell the difference from the passenger seat. I suppose this is due to the soft sidewalls in the SO2's that some have commented about.
The F1's also worked out about £50 cheaper per tyre - £65 ea compared to £120 quotes i was given.

65 per corner (if that includes VAT & fitting) is a tremendous price. I was quoted around 96 per corner for the Goodyear Eagle F1s and went for the S-02 at around 106. If the F1s had been that price I would have gone for them without a second thought.

That was all inclusive from Wembley Tyres. I contacted them after seeing a post on this board, can't remember by who though!

I've just phoned Wembley Tyres (0181-459-6191) to get the details of this great price:

Goodyear Eagle F1, 205/50 16"

tyre: £65
valve/balancing: £4.50
fitting: free
total inc VAT: £81.66, so £326 for a set of 4

Still an excellent price compared to Micheldever Tyres who do them for about £105 all inc.

BTW, they have them in stock and are open Saturdays 8:30-4:30pm.

Yes, I bought 4 last Friday @ £60 per tyre plus £3 balancing/valves from Wembley. Just a bit of a nightmare negotiating London traffic after the quiet lanes of East Sussex!
