I definitely need to upgrade my brakes... Therefore I would appreciate if you can tell me which of the Brembo (Scoobysport) or AP Racing (4 piston caliper, 304*28mm disk) would you recommend for standard 16” rims.
Thanks for your comment!

Dul,
I think you will find that either Brembo or AP brakes will give you more than enough stopping power time after time. It seems to come down to which name you prefer as they are both about the same price.

Guys, Yes upgrading the calipers will give a you better stopping power, but this can also be done to some extent by upgrading the pads.
Try a harder compound like Mintex, Ferodo, EBC, etc....

Danny,
Your quite right but Dul was asking about AP/Brembo.
Me I'm looking at Pagid/Ferodo with Goodridge hoses and decent fluid. But then I've got a MY99 with 4 pots which are better than Dul's 2 pots to start with.
Dul,
Do you need the ultimate stopping power or do you just want better brakes?
Better brakes can be obtained, as Danny suggests, using harder pads. It all depends on how much you want to spend and how hard you are on brakes.

Guys,
I’ve already upgraded my pads and went for Group N disk and stainless steel braided hose a long time ago. I’m leaving in a quite mountainous area and trust me, I really need
the ultimate stopping power when braking… Well, I know I may go for 17” wheels which allow me bigger disks? By the way does this make a big difference ?
But at the beginning I just wanted to know which are the best, AP or Brembo??
Thanks all!

I have now fitted AP 4 pots under later 16 inch rims, no problems with clearance except that there is a need to position internal balance weights to avoid the calipers (I neatly removed mine when I reversed out of the garage) but ... my older style 16's will NOT fit over them (I suspect this is the same with for Brembo's) as the wheel design is different and the caliper front face fouls the wheel spokes. Fortunately I have been able to get hold of a couple of later wheels so I still have a track set.

I have Brembo "Group A" under 16" wheels.
If you are considering 17" wheels, then you would be able to fit the AP Racing 6 Pot kit, which will give more stopping power than any kit that sits under 16" wheels.
The AP kit is also less likely to give any disk vibration problems as it isn't "Fully floating".

Dul, You could fit the AP's under 16's, but this depends on the wheels that you have, if you have the standard 16's then spacers are not required, anything other you may need to check.
As per the question 'Which is better?' it comes down to how much you want to spend. I can put you in touch with a company that do the AP 4 and 6 pot calipers, with discs and pads, or you can go to someone like Scooby Mania for the full AP kit or Scooby Sport for the Brembos for about another 4-500 pounds per kit.
I have fitted the AP 4 pots and found the stopping power a different story to the original 2 pots.
As I have stated it comes down to the age old problem. HOW MUCH DO YOU WANNA SPEND????
Hope this helps you out a little.

Edited because it didn't read correctly.

hehe, well spotted Stef
Very simply they are not remotely similar to the 'proper' AP Racing kit developed by Scooby Mania in conjunction with AP Racing.
It just isn't possible!
The AP Racing kit is far more than just a caliper.

Hey Dul!
I'm also from Switzerland and own a MY98.
My question, if you need better brakes, I think you have some changes done to the engine?
What did you do and where?
(I want to have more power for my MY98 either from Digit Power or Sportec and need advice...)

Stef, the company use AP calipers, and Wilwood hard compound discs. The other way that this kit is cheaper is that they make the disc bells and caliper mountings in-house. This cuts the cost to us the customer.
Mike please don't go back down this route again, I thought we cleared this up in the last discussion about brake kits and costs.

Of course Danny, no problem.
Just as long as there is no confusion about what people are getting.
I was just removing any doubt that the kit that only uses the AP caliper is in any way a sanctioned or official AP kit and that is why it is much cheaper, hence my comment that a top drawer brake kit (such as genuine AP Racing or Brembo) is more than just a Caliper.

As an observation I ran with Willwood Superlite 4 pots on my Cav Turbo, superb brakes, disks were Indy spec, like the AP's so nothing too wrong with Willwood disks. It is important that callipers and disks are correctly matched together with pads though.
My AP's are getting better and better, can't wait for the next track day.
