Question

Anyone tell me the best way to remove tar spots from my lovely gold alloys. Tried wonder wheels, great for brake dust and grime but no good for the tar.

Cool

Would you believe tar spot remover works wonders

Something like methylated spirit, or acetone (nail polish remover) should also do the trick without damaging the wheels.

And I don't wear nail polish in case anyone starts, just thinking of things that people are likely to have lying about their house!

Used autoglym intensive tar remover on mine before treating them with zymol wheel protector, it's mutch easier to get all the spots off if you remove the wheels first

C'mon, everybody knows the *real* answer is to smear margarine all over them! Leave for ten minutes, then wipe off. Easy. Just don't let the missus catch you using the same tub of Flora to butter her crumpets, or it'll be murders

Don't use tar remover products as they will damage your finish on the wheels & bodywork.

Use some margarine, plonk some on the tar & gently rub every minute or so.

Yep, I found this out a few weeks back. My partner suggested using 'LARD' to get rid of tar on the car paint work !!!

Well bugger me, worked brilliantly. Worst bit was washing the lard off, but no real hassle.

Tip of the week !!!

Wink

nice one mike - when I lived in cyprus, my mum used to clean the tar from my backside/feet with fly-spray after I had been on the beach aged 4 - smelled bloody awful but worked wonders - I guess only posh kids got margarine in those days !

don't forget to give the wheels a good scrub with toothpaste though (seriously)to make them extra shiny - just don't let 'er indoors catch you returning the tube to the bathroom - its difficult to explain ;-)

shall we start a topic on removing stains ? -
a certain doctor might be interested in how to get dog-slobber marks out of blue alcantara seats !

cheers,

Paul W
