My main dealer has offered this @£1800 fitted complete with front and rear braided hoses and uprated fluid. is this price about right or are there better deals around.

You can usually get a better deal if you're prepared to shop around, especially if you're willing to go to a specialist rather than a dealer.

Also, bear in mind the replacement cost of a one piece disk & bell setup versus separate disk & bell as per some of the other big brake kits available. Have you considered AP?

You can get a lot better a lot cheaper! but if you want to stick with the Prodrive name which quite frankly is worth nothing then they are your only option

Would have thought you can get a Kad/Scoobysport 6 pot set up for this price!

AP Racing 4 pot kits will be about £1600. 6 Pot kit a bit more.
But well worth it.

same here, had the prodrive brakes on my old p1, did 10 laps of goodwood, never the same again, not much confidence in them, expensive to replace the discs, about £750, wouldnt buy them again

I changed my disc for AP discs and got some bells made to suit the calipers, then put Pagid blue pads in and they stop well now

We can also make our own discs which are a direct replacement , The discs have a separate alloy bell , they can be grooved , drilled or both , then you only need to replace the discs when they are worn out and reuse the bell , Mail me for prices , Cheers Ian

Imo not worth it, the Alcon / Prodrive setup is good, but the discs are one piece, so if you have to replace the disc then its over £700 absolutely ridiculous.

I'd go with AP personally, had the 330mm 4 Pots on my STI V and they were simply stunning, discs are much cheaper to replace as well as they can come off at the Bell.

Our brake kit is designed to be fitted with the original hoses, basically if the brakes work properly, you shouldn't need braided hoses. That's why we don't supply them with the kit. Same goes for the fluid, it's designed to not need 'uprated' fluid.

The kit costs £1527.50 + fitting and you will all be pleased to hear that we have very recently reduced the replacement pad and disc cost by 25%.

She's my baby now ;-)

I did a driver training day a couple of weeks back and the brakes lasted three laps. Basically the pedal went very soft and needed pumping to get some pressure back. I was just wondering what fluid was in the brakes and when was it last changed also what pads were in the front? I have changed the fluid to DOT 5.1 and put new pads in even though there was plenty of life still in the fronts. I am taking her out again on Saturday to see if there is any improvement.

i had dot 5.1 put in when i got brake conversion at about 20,000 miles-i had a chat to alyn at as performance who reckoned not all dot 5.1 are the same-it is a standard for water resistance not for braking potential!!
when i sold it it had original pads on !!-one thing to note t+c in perth reckoned the brakes needed taking apart every service to clear out stones,dust etc
pedal never did that to me except when i had the old brakes on hence the change of brakes

Since purchasing the car I thought the brakes felt a bit soft, I would describe it as a lack of bite. If those are the original pads they sure have lasted well, did you never use the brakes :-)

i had to get the pads cleaned at 32,000 miles when town and country said they would need replacing by 40,000 miles at the most
i have used it enough on a92 tohave fade after 25 miles of driving
regarding the lack of bite i know what you mean-when i initially got the brakes i thought they were great but after 6 months i noticed a lack of bite ?getting used to them or you may need to replace discs as well as pads and fluid
interesting you had a lot of life left in pads due to what i said above
brembos are much much better than prodrive brakes

I have had to have a rear strut replaced that started leaking and have just found out that a quantity of brake fluid has been put in the car. I don't know what spec or how much but a think this may have something to do with the brake fade I have experienced. I am speaking to the dealer later today and hope to have an answer regarding the fluid they used.

Martin,

Just a quick update on brakes. I did a driver training day on Saturday and they are much better now. We suspect that the dealer put dot 4 brake fluid in with the 5.1 and did not bleed the system correctly. The new pads took some time to bed in with the disks due to there being some heavy graining on the disks but all seems to be well now.
