Question

Help!!

Just sheared a wheel off just proud of the wheel itself and was wondering;

a) Are they easy to change, and do I need a puller etc?
b) Where can I get one/some

I have an MY00 WRX Import.

Any help appreciated

Changed a front stud the other week on an 02 car. Piece of p*ss.

Take the wheel off, take the caliper off, take the disc off, I took the splash shield off too but might not have needed to bother. Drift the broken stud out, put the new one in as far as it'll go by hand and then put a spacer over the new stud and use the standard nut to pull the stud into the hub.

Check the wheel nut torque after a few days as it'll gradually pull in a bit more as you drive.

if your stuck for getting one, we have quite a few std length studs lying around as we replace these with "gpN" longer studs when modifying rallycars...............

Thanks for advice, BUT!!

Have removed the disc and am trying to remove the splined hub and it seems to be pushing the drive shaft backwards and has actually released the bearing. Is this normal or have I compoletely wrecked the thing??

Bearing you shouldn't be touching the bearing...

If you have undone the big centre nut, and the bearing has come out of the hub. You should seek professional advice.

On the front the disc just lifts off the hub over the studs, you don't touch the splined hud, big nut or anything. I know nothing about hubs, bearings, splines or anything like that. So if you need to play with these ignore any advice from me.

Thumbs up

Thanks for all the advice.

Have managed the job, but have ended up knackering the ABS sensor. The problem with the hub was that whilst using a puller to remove the hub the actual drum brake housing was bending against the suspension bushes, thereby making it look as though the drive shaft was being pushed back into the centre diff!

One quick tap with a hammer on the hub, and everything sprang back to normal. Quickly put big nut back on and removed brake shoe for easy access to wheel stud. Should have done this first - oh well, it's all experience I suppose.

Cheers,

POT

Hub brake? That'll be a rear wheel then? No wonder I didn't recognise the description. Pleased it's back together without major distress.
