Question

If you have fitted braded brake hoses to your Scoob, did you fit just fronts or did you do the rear as well?

Who offers the best price for these?

Any issues or warnings with fitting them or bleeding the brakes?

THT

Most people replace all 4. The Goodridge 4-line kit is the most popular. Prices vary wildly, but average is £50-£60 for all 4 on a classic Impreza. Some so-called specialists will try charging you £80 for the same kit

Try Rally Design, Banshee Motorsport or Godspeed

Only gotchas I know of are the heads of the Goodridge hoses don't fit through the OEM bracket, but you just need to trim a little off the bracket with a Dremel.

I would redirect you to a post on fitting them, but with the Turbo Uploader thing fecked, there's not much point.

I'll see if I can find pics from another website.

Here's a pic showing the bracket where the brake line goes through. On some cars the hole needs to be enlarged slightly to accept the SS hoses. Your's maybe OK.

In theory, you should get a firmer pedal since the rubber OEM ones have a tendancy to expand when heated. The SS ones should hold their shape more and when combined with a DOT4 or DOT 5 fluid will have less of a tendancy to boil the brake fluid giving you that 'oh, my God, foot to the bulkhead, sphincter-clenching moment' when your using the brakes hard.

The DOT rating is just an indication of the fluids ability to perform after absorbing moisture once it's sat in the braking system for a good while.

dot 5.1 is quite often a "poorer" performing fluid (from an ability to cope with high temps.!) than some dot4's........not really a 'performance' fluid as sold by some............
and yes normally you would replace all four lines to get the full benefit!!
our kits are around £60inc. on avg......however, beware you are comparing like with like because there are a number of options and some people charge a lot more for some of these.........e.g. we include a plastic coating on all our kits FOC!! (normally cost option)
alyn - as performance

it's not a bad idea persay, but you want to keep the brake balance. So if you upgrade the front you should upgrade the rears (to a lesser extent of course).

You'll need to bleed the system when they're fitted, so for the sake of an extra £25, is it really worth leaving them? Of course, you'll save a little on labour, but you might as well do the lot at the same time.

stefan- I got a pair right here.. and still looking for a second pair to complete the set..

Getting some big discs on the front, (294 on 17's) and also bought soem decent pads for the rears... it'll get there eventually.. got the 45k service too this month so an AP kit will have to wait even longer
